Help needed again please my door handle on the outside seems to stick open sometimes so the door won't close propley and I have to push it back in to shut the door any help much appreciated is there any thing I could spray in it to loosen it up or does it need replacing

Think someone did a write up how-to on this a short while back. Seem to think it's because a lip builds up on the plastic and causes the handle to sit out once pulled. Mine does the same.

I have just 'sweetened' the action of my passenger door locking mechanism and door handle.

I serviced the lock, (cleaned and lubricated), then I removed the door handle, (one Torx screw at rear of handle at very edge of door where skin is very thin).

Handle will pull out, (as long as you have disconnected the rod to the lock mechanism), and you can then strip down the 'pull' mechanism, (a plastic lever with a spring and it is grooved where the end of the handle fits in to it ).

This provides the 'pull' to return the handle to it's normal default position and I noted my spring appeared ok but the plastic part of the handle was chafing where it passed through the block to engage with the sprung plastic lever.

One Phillips screw holds the outer plastic cosmetic cover on and there is a very thin plastic trim that protects the door paintwork.

Use long nose pliers to gently disengage the handle end from the sprung plastic arm and you can separate the handle from the mechanism.

Remove both and then gently file any obvious areas where there are signs of catching.

I cleaned all components and then re greased all of the parts that come into contact with each other and my handle now sits flush with the mouldings whereas it always sat about 5mm above the moulding previously.

Pease take a look at today's 'changing doors' post to see how I removed the lock!

Apologies Tomcat as I believe that you also suggested replacement springs in the other post and I got carried away, with my ramblings, and forgot to comment further!

My first action was to try and further tension the spring, (not very easy to do), but when I did some tests, (with various components temoved), I noted that the cause of the reluctance to return all the way was definite friction on the handle stem.

The spring could denitely be the cause, however, as if the spring is tired, ('if' on a 20 year old vehicle!), then the handle will tend to snag more readily with the slightest resistance - so I will keep an eye on it!

On this particular occasion a bit of light filing, thorough cleaning and a re-grease has sorted mine for now but I have yet to do the drivers side, (hopefully tomorrow)!

At least the handle is flush with the trim - it was about 5mm proud previously.

Just need to learn how to put the door cards back as I can't get the pins out of the door!

Is there a trick or am I missing something?

Cheers wammers again I bloody looked on there site yesterday and the said didn't stock them just orderd it
