Disco 2 driver side passenger door not unlocking on central locking

Merry Christmas folks.

The passenger door on the drivers side (Disco 2 1999) has decided not to unlock on the central locking. I've got the panel off and have removed the exterior door handle and loosened off the locking unit to have a look. Everything is connected as should be. The central locking will lock the door but when I press the unlock button I can hear it try but the handle wont pop up?

I have to do it manually by pulling the interior handle.

Is there a problem with the unit and a simple change of mechanism is needed or is there another issue going on?

Also if I have to change the unit its quite fiddly and It looks like the frame needs to be loosened/come out, is this correct?

Sounds similar to what my rear door did, had to replace the actuator.

These disco 2's are definitely a labour of love.. I'll order the part and get it fitted asap, cheers for link to guide, makes it a relatively straight forward job. Next job will be bushes on rear end as she makes a dull thud if you rock her

Yep, the same thing has just happened to mine too, the left hand side rear door.

Just been online to get some information about it, looking at 70-90 quid including carriage and VAT, depending on where it's bought from. I would prefer to fit a new unit rather than a used one.

If anybody is wondering, the part numbers are:-

Right hand side: FQM100700

Left hand side: FQM100710

It is possible to repair the lock but a fiddly job. There are 2 x 12 volt motors in the lock, one to lock it and one to unlock it. The lock fails because the non-servicable brushes on the motors wear out. They are similar in appearance to Scalextric motors and are made by a firm called Mabuchi; they have cornered the market in lock motors and most modern cars use them. I have found a number of 'how to repair' articles on line. It just so happens that Minis have the same locks and a number of their forums cover the repair in depth.

All that said, I just replaced the locks. It is a fiddly job and you need to take your time. Top tip; before you start, remove the metal loop from the door frame so that you cannot lock the door and be unable to open it. If you find yourself doing a rear door, it is also a good opportunity to cure the rust that appears at the base of the frame between the main glass and the quarter light and also replace the metal support at the base of the quarter light.
