driving a lane just because it's there doesnt provide the same level of challenge as climbing a mountain on that same basis, but maybe the OP has to ask his mum or post a question on the tinterweb asking what he should have for breakfast

and for what it's worth yes i do ramble
I go hiking not rambling. Is that different?Rambling means red socks to me.Any way the point is should he drive it?Probbaly not, if he dont need to.But ive never needed to drive a green lane.Did one in a pug 306 once but thats a different story. Can he drive it.Yep.He shouldnt rag it but we shouldnt rag any lane.Preserving everything wont work.Everything in moderation.

Ah that explains alot! anyone for a cheese sandwich and some tea, Pesky 4x4's why are they on the 2% of RoW anyway they should be punished!!]

I'm all for exercising our Right to greenlane and if done with respect for the countryside and politeness even to the most arsey rambler it may even help us in maintaining the remaining legal RoW. Jai

Its your legal right to pass and re pass an un surfaced highway such as this byway with vehicular rights. You pay road tax, it is your right to be able to drive it. It is also the councils responsibility to maintain the un surfaced highway. Although if is damaged by offroaders or greenlaners being idiots then they will close it until it is sutable to be driven again or until they TRO it for good. Drive it if you want to, don't spin your wheels if it gets boggy stop have a look to make sure its drivable if it not reverse to a safe place and turn around not in a farmers field. Compare the meercat, Simples! Jai

That's it right there, no arguments.

As in rambling on??? ;)

i dont drive a lane for the challenge , i drive them because i enjoy it ,i dont neeed to challenge or prove anything to my self im a big boy now. and i dont need to ask me mum anything... as said i put this question on internet because i would be interested on people opions or peeps might now that lane is buggerd half way down and say so, which would stop me from trying it, anyway got to go open that gate now must get on cheers

It's all been said for me by Jai and fenby.

But then, I don't cut lanes up, I know when to reverse out of a situation if it's looking too boggy and if we don't drive the lanes the councils will shut them down anyway due to lack of use!

So I'd definitely drive it. If the gates locked it might be a different matter, but if it's free to open then drive on.
