My 2003 TD4 was smoking like hell on start up but cleared up as engine temp increased. I knew the injectors needed doing so i whipped them out and stuck a set of freshly reconditioned items in.
While i was in there i replaced a weeping cam-cover seal, de-coked the ports and thoroughly de-greased everything i could get too.
When i started the priming process (turn over for 10, off for 5, repeat) there was a loud pop....
I performed a quick visual inspection but couldn't see anything obviously wrong so i carried on. She really didn't seem keen so i stopped for a bit and had another look around the engine bay. Diesel was dripping from the sump and one of the black, steel pipes under the injector pump. Due to it's location, i'm struggling to see exactly where the diesel is coming from. Could it be a split hose or something? I'd really like to get some idea of what i'm looking for before tearing her down again.
The injector pump is a Bosch 0445010011.
Also, when i do get stuck in again, is it worth fitting a seal kit to the pump or are they best left undisturbed until they completely pack up?
Thanks in advance.

Is it starting and running?
The pump head seals can fail which gives a tell tale drop off the sump, directly below the HP pump. I replaced the seals in my pump but is still dripped a bit. I replaced it with a second hand eBay replacement, which was well worth the £35 it cost me. I'll recondition my original pump more thoroughly when time allows.

She's not running as yet. I'll stick a tray under the sump and try to get her running again tomorrow. Is there a special tool required to remove the pump?

All sorted now, thanks for the input.
I just took everything apart, made sure it was all good and refitted it.... Guess something wasn't seated quite right somewhere.
