well there is a sender unit in the tank, use that to your advantage give it 12v and hook to a pipe in front.
Or, under the seat you can remove the sender unit and then have a big nice round hole straight into it.

There's no lift pump on the L Series.

If you can gain access under the seats to the gauge sender, then you could presumably siphon the fuel.

In fact, if you disconnect the feed to the fuel filter under the bonnet, attach a longer hose to it, you may be able to siphon it out there, starting it off with the bulb - not sure if it would have enough 'suction' on it to draw from the tank and through the non return valve in the bulb.

I was able to siphon mine with a long pipe. It has to go through a flap at the bottom of the filler pipe so it's a pain to do but still possible. It's best to do with the car raised or on a kerb so the container is as far below it as possible.
If you can slide a thinner pipe down inside a bigger pipe it helps.
And if you have a compressor stick a 2nd a short pipe in the filler, block the hole with a damp towel and blow compressed air in. Diesel doesn't taste good. :p

I tried that but it didn't work.
