Double declutch

Would neutral main box. Clutch neutral tx box then clutch hi range before clutch selecting a gear in the main box be ok? Long winded but the bang I had last time I changed low to high was horrific. To the point I got out and checked the shafts!

I am currently double de clutching in my new 6 speed defender. It is helping me to change gear smoothly whilst getting used to the new gearbox with the extra gear.
If you are finding the gearchanges jerky on the Puma's, you are probably keeping your foot slightly on the throttle.

Experiment and try lifting your foot clear of the throttle pedal when you shift and it should be much smoother.

BTW - it's something to do with the electronics, drive-by-wire and ECU that causes this. On a Tdi doesn't matter. But it tries to do something with the throttle when you shift and if you add inputs it just makes it jerky.
 
I've had literally a lifetime of double de-clutching and since I've had a 1930 Alvis for the last 30 years it's absolutely essential: That thing makes a Landrover Series box seem sophisticated. The thing is that it's a really useful way to drive: It makes your synchromesh last for longer and it's kinder on the drive train - particularly when towing. Not only that but as every competition driver knows you can actually change down quicker with the technique. I personally think that it should be a requirement of the driving test to be able to handle a particularly difficult crash box. Can you imagine how quiet the roads would be?
