Hi All, 2000 P38
Does anyone know how to resolve
Key fob not unlocking doors, but will lock doors.
Key fob will only unlock all doors when it is in ignition after message says to press remote.

as above, put the key in the door, press lock and turn to lock, then same for unlock. also try re inputting the eka code, this can sort a few niggles out with the locks from time to time.

according to the manual the car needs to recieve a signal from the fob and then an input at the lock within a short space of time (seconds) this will sync the fob to the car. the most widely method used tho is the one i put in the previous paragraph!

OK 2 things...
1) does the car beep when you take key out and is there a message " key in ignition" if so it wont lock because it thinks key is still in. press the inner of the ignition barrel to make sure its popped out fully, use some graphite powder to loosen it.

If thats not the case..

2) does the red light on your key fob light up when you press the lock button. If not your key fob may need refurbishing. The button may be knackered. Available on ebey for a couple of quid..

Also mine does it sometimes and wont lock on the fob but if I press unlock again, even though it is unlocked , it will then lock using the fob.

Normally if you get the message press remote , its the alarm thats on and key needs to re sync to turn off immobiliser.

Good luck..

ok
Message doesn't show key in ignition, so dont think that is problem.

Red light on fob lights up when locking and locks no probs, but shows nothing when trying to unlock and will not unlock untill key is in ignition.

Thanks for suggestions,
But spare key fob has same problem and will not unlock either so would assume problem is something other than fob re-furb.

if i was you i would do as suggested and renew the fob with the kit of ebay, then you will know for definate that it is not that.it does not matter that the other fob is doing the same.

Hi All,
Does anyone have any more ideas as I still have not solved this prob,
Symptoms are,

Fob 1 will lock car with good red led showing on key when locking but no light when unlocking and will not unlock doors untill put in ignition.

Fob 2 no red light on key at all, , I have had to input EKA several times in order to start car with this key which seems to quickly lose sync.

I have replaced batteries, had buttons off, which are not that old and in good cond.
Also tried key in lock whilst holding button down 3secs etc.

This happens where ever I park. Athough RF unit has picked up signals in past resulting in flat battery overnight.

It has to be your fob. Without the LED showing when you press the button, you'll be getting little or no signal. It's possible it works when it's in the ignition as it's then inside the car and the RF (Radio Frequency) could be picked up in the wiring and re-radiated so that it's picked up by the receiver. It works on UHF and it can have a mind of it's own. As stated previously, YOU HAVE TO GET YOUR FOB WORKING PROPERLY. Without that basic, you're farting in the wind. Concentrate on one fob. Get the LED to illuminate when you press both buttons. Doesn't matter which fob but from what you say above, concentrate on fob 1. Fob 2 looks to be past it but I suspect it's just the buttons that are buggered.
