Hello everyone,

I've just discovered rust running along the bottom of my drivers side door. Its a '99 defender 90. So I'm going to have to do something about it.
I gave it a quick wire brush at the weekend and found that there was more rust than I first thought. I went right through the metal in some places leaving some holes.
I was thinking of more wire brushing and then some kurust. Maybe some filler and then paint. I'm just worried that I take to much door and can't get a nice straight edge and re attach the seal at the bottom. Which, looking at, might need replacing anyway.

Cheers disco, been reading your thread and thought it was brilliant. It must be good o finish a project like that.
I hope that I haven't got much to do. Just some new door bottoms, but I do quite fancy the idea of having the doors galvanised. If I did, I'd probably get both done. Seems daft not to.
I'm going to try and keep on op of the rust. But keep finding more. Found some this morning. Just behind the dash. Small dribble of water is coming through where the bolts are next to the vents, behind a facia. Not sure of the correct terminology. All a bit new to me.

I reckon I am going to need to weld some new bottoms on my doors. I'll need to get hold of a welder. Found a few cheap arc welders on eBay. Clarke weld mostly. Are these any good for a cheap DIY welder?

Worked out that where the water is coming through is the windscreen bracket. Obvious name really. Tightened up the bolts but ordered some gaskets just to be safe. Bit of rust in this area. Might have to take the dash off to investigate.
