door removal

Hi

Been looking round the landy just doing jobs as I find them, I have been sorting out the back and doors. The passengers side side door is an awful fit so had a closer look, the hinges are not great but what I found it has got a drives side top hinge so when you open the door it's pulling the hinge allover the place. So my question is how do I undo the hinge bolts into the bulkhead and it looks like some one else has tried before me. Can I get to put more nuts on the bulkhead advice before I jump in with a grinder. ;-)

nuts in the bulkhead are captive and easily replaced, you can just drill screw heads of

iirc the bolts hinge to bh are captive nuts but they do rust up.

Right got you I did not know they were not part of the bulkhead. What do I need to take off to find the captive nuts???

once the hinge is off you should be able to see them they just hook over a hole in the bulkhead so that the nut lines up with the bolt hole, then you should be able to prise them off if they are no good

I was able to undo most of mine when I took my doors off. There was one which was rusted solid. However an 8mm drill bit soon saw to this. They are easy to drill out.

As others have said, the captive nuts can then be bent out of place and discarded. The replacement captive nuts and screws are easily available as spares. I remember a stall at Billing who had all of those sorts of bits for sale.

Once you have access to the holes in the bulkhead, spray in a load of fishoil or similar. Also copper grease the new captive nuts, and replace the screws with stainless, makes it a lot easier for the future.

Nuts are probably turning, captive bit given up,just drill them out.
