Please have a look at these photos. Has anyone used these fittings, or would consider using them? I'm considering fitting them to my Defender Td5 County Station Wagon 110 (year 2005). What do you think?

No, They are useless. If some one wants to break into your Landy all they have to do is a crowbar in the top and bend the door top down. Only way they would work is if you had them at the top of the door... Even then they will look crap and if someone wants your Landy enough, they will have some bolt cutters with them.
 
And they are whey to expensive for what they are. Might aswell go down to B&Q get something very similar for £20.

Thanks for replies. Now, I think we could be on the point of going down a road that to many of us is already familiar. It's the road that says "nothing, or almost nothing, can stop someone breaking in if that's what they want to do". and sure, no doubt that's right.

However, using a crowbar a door could be bent down whatever extra door lock were fitted, so in a way this reply is saying "all extra locks are useless: don't bother". They'd look crap at the top of the door, sure; I reckon they look pretty crap on any part of the door, but I can put up with that if they deter one thief and what's in the vehicle isn't removed. I do think I want to fit extra locks, so my comparison would be this type of fitment against other types of fitment.
 
o and I agree with wat ur sayin, bout the argument 'they're gonna nick it if they want to so may as well leave it unlocked, key in the ignition and tank full of doozal!cos if they want it they'l have it'!;)

personally I ****in hate the fact my landy is soooo easy to get into, gettin new barrels but its fitments like those you show which will atleast make it a wee bit harder for the crooks!much like a disclock!hard to get off, noisy and such, but cant still be removed.
however I have and use one
 
Think I'd be forever catching the sticky out bit ...

As a deterrent I'd rather spend a fiver at B&Q or Screwfix .. ;)
 
Agree with disco. those could be drilled out no?

I like you have also (briefly) looked into additional door locs for my 3 door 90. What i am after is the type fitted to vans. These are like a normal lock but will work in addition to standard defender lock. Those ones from foley dont look too bright TBH and you will need a big padlock on each door. not very subtle is it? Do a search for van security and see what additional locks come up. prices will be better to as the van market is well catered for.

I am currently working on a retro fit lock which can be easily installed.

Once I have the prototypes I will post pictures etc of them on the site.

The idea was born after endless nights trying to think of a way to try and at least make them difficult to get into.

Agree, in principle its a decent enough idea, however they really ought to have studs that sit flush rather than rather clumsy screws.

Surprised that nobody has come up with a design that covers the doorhandle/lock, preventing the door being opened even if the window is broken.....

To be honest its time thats most critical for a thief, so any deterrent will always be better than none, sad that we have to discuss this once again. Glad to say we dont have such a problem here in denmark, there are aspects of english life i dont miss....could murder a packet of Richmonds pork sausages though :D

They are ok ad, just a little obtrusive and not well thought through.

I have recently found these: Protection

which were linked off an old issue of the overland journal. think i may be ordering some when i find out if my job is secure :(
