I'm new to the forum so first things first... HI!

Now to the problem,

I have a 1995 300TDI and my door locks are packing up!

Up until today when I used the remote locking all the doors locked except the boot, which I do manually - I can live with that.

When I unlock with the remote the front passange door doesn't open properly because the springs gone - I can live with that to because I'm the driver not the passange! (Although how easy is it to fix?)

But today when I locked the car the driver's door didn't lock. When I put the key in the lock I can lock it but there's a lot of resistance (almost like I'm forcing it). I've read on here somewhere that "forcing" the lock could eventually lead to a little plastic ring/cog breaking which then sounds like a nightmare to fix.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

Common fault with these locks, its a continuation of the little spring fault. It costs about 0.7pence, you would need to remove the door cards and replace the springs.

A bit of lube will probably not do much here, the mechanism is not sitting correctly and thats the resistance your feeling.

You will see the repair kits on ebay for about £14, I would be more inclined to take one out, go to an engineering shop and ask if they have something similar and it will cost less than a quid.

Cheers for your help guys, glad it's not a major problem, I'll get to fixing them pretty soonish - it'll be nice to have proper working locks!!

Well I finally got around to looking at the locks today, turned out the drivers door problem was a result of the door latch bing as dry as a bone, so lots of GT85 later and I'm all working again!

Not tackled the springs yet, it was a bit cold to be outside too long today so will wait until I can get in my mates garage in the new year for that.
