Well on Monday I placed a deposit on an auto td4. I posted a link up to it somewhere on here.
Since then I've been looking at replacement Bluetooth head units, amps speakers and sound deadening, side steps, and various amounts of other bits and bobs.

I've just bought a used synergy 2a from here and a pirsburg (however you spell it).

As soon as it arrives I'm replacing the worn gear gaiter, giving the whole interior a real thorough clean (I'm a detailer) then serving it. In between that I'm going to be working around the car polishing and protecting the body work ad engine bay within an inch of its life. Don't worry guys i be posting pictures!

I'm sure along the way ill find even more annoyances and things to fix or restore. In a bugger for anything that rattles too so ill have to see how well these cars are put together!

When I actually pick up the car I'm going to order all the servicing bits and probably do the egr blank and bmw seperate mod at the same time. Does this sound like a plan?

does indeed sound like a good plan, when i got mine i done the egr bypass, bmw crankcase conversion, air filter, also there is a small turbo inline filter that sits right behind the engine near the maf sensor, as u will be replacing it with the pierburgh maf youve bought

i then had all the wheels off, done all new brakes all round, replaced the oils in the engine, ird, auto box, diff, etc

mine came with a full service history but then knew myself it had all been done properly

always go with oem parts as like everything u get what u pay for

on the synergy ive got an auto and set mine on setting 2 and the toggle 3 way switch on the red setting which is the old style where u have to turn the engine off before u change the setting on the box

go to the rover ron web site and plenty of info on there

I wouldn't jump in and replace the freebie speakers straight off. They are actually pretty decent when connected to a good head unit.
 
No I'm leaving the non essentials until I've got the basics done. Ok synergy isn't a basics but it came up at a good price. The other bits although modifications, sound like they are good things to do. Never had a dirty diesel but one thing I know is that they smoke so anything to reduce this must be a good thing.

Ill be honest, I can't wait to get stuck into detailing it. It's my first black car and I choose that colour to really show off my work.

I'm on the look out for some cheap side steps. Again not an essential so don't wanna spend big money on them. To be honest, I don't know of ill ever need to use them but I think they give the freelander a much beefier look.
 
I've got a feeling the speakers are going to be all corroded in the door. I didn't manage to get the head unit working on the test drive and the clock was m funny. I've found out how to fix the clock so I'm gonna have a go with that. I also noticed the speaker grills in the doors looked a little rusty. My take on it is that I'd rather yet drive a car with a good engine and box than a car with a working head unit. I can fix this easily enough as I've done a fair bit of car audio in the past.
 
Oh and I'm going to strip the brakes down. Ill replace bits if I need to but probably just give them a good clean a see what happens. Then I'm going to paint the rusty drums black and calipers. Also really like the wind deflectors So on the look out for some of them. My list is growing...
 
I used to add 500ml of 2 stroke oil to every tank of fuel in my Ford Maverick. It definitely ran better and never suffered any kind of engine fault in 150K miles!
 
I replaced that horrible gear gator with a proper leather one and a new leather gear knob, finished it off nicely
 
I've an auto so I don't think I'll be able to replace the knob. Unless I get a new one from Land rover?

I don't really know how they work to be honest.
 
I done the same after I paid the deposit, ordered light guards, silicone hoses, wind deflectors, and head unit with harness and fascia adapter lol :)

All the stuff you've got planned seems good. :)

My gear knob has a wooden top which matches the wood trim on the console! I quite like the look but I've never seen another with this wood trim.
 
I've seen the wooden ones but I don't have wood anywhere else. Noticed a few people replacing the hoses with silicone ones. Is this a matter of preference or is there any real benefits? I know they are harder wearing etc but cant justify the price just yet. I have replaced them on other cars but they have been like show cars with polished engine bays etc. I don't wanna look under the hood on my td4 lol.
