Dom's 109" (re)build

Bugger, I've just been rebuilding my carb as it was filthy (and had been painted) and have managed to round off the little accelerator pump jet. This is the one that sticks out about 1/4" into the choke of the emulsion block. Does anyone know what thread these are to try and clean it out....

I'd like to keep this carb because apart from the muck its in good nick. If not does anyone have an emulsion block or otherwise knackered carb for sale?

cant picture it exactly, but I have a few carbs kicking around.
oldseadog's due in hebden next week, trying to arrange a meet up with him. if all goes to plan could bring some carbs along ;)
 
Finished off rebuilding the Carburetor today and fitted to the intake manifold. Took a bit of faffing to get the float level right...until I realised that I'd left out the thick spacer washer on the needle valve assembly.

Hopefully it will all work when I try it but that is going to be a while away yet. I'd hoped that I'd be driving to Le Mans in it last year, at this rate it might be ready for June 2015...

Also pressure washed the fuel tank inside and out. Are there any patent mixtures that I should rinse the inside out with?

Just make sure that the tank is perfectly dry on the inside and you won't go far wrong.

A couple of coats of paint on the outside for extra protection, maybe?

There was quite a bit of rust, water, sludge and other much in the bottom but no leaks. I've seen there is some POR15 stuff but it looks very expensive!

I'll certainly be stripping it down and giving it a good few coats of red oxide, chassis black and underseal. The last thing I want to have to do is dismantle the rear tub for a leak as soon as I've rebuilt it!
 
Does it have a top or a side level sender, and would it be possible to remove that and stick the nozzle of a hoover inside?

If you shake it can you still hear loads of loose stuff rattling around inside?

If you can't it should be OK ;)
 
It's a top sender, I took that out and gave it a blast out with the pressure washer and a bit of detergent until I'd got all the rubbish out. I'll probably just rinse and dry it, not sure how to dry it effectively but will probably rig up some sort of blower to get air through it...then I'll have to work out what all the extra pipes are for!
 
Spent a bit of a frustrating day up at the garage yesterday. Painted one backplate to have the paint go all bubbly when applied - not sure it reacted well with the primer.

Then decided I'd check one of the PO's welds on the chassis by grinding some of his lumpy stick weld off, found that there was no penetration and that the plate had not taken at all....looks like all the bits that I've painted so far are going to have to be ground off and redone. Half tempted to buy a half-chassis for it...
 
Well I bit the bullet and bought a new chassis, it arrived all shiny in the sun from Richards on Friday. I've now got a few weeks off work so will be blitzing this (as well as trying to get the other Landy through its MOT).

Yesterday I rebuilt the front prop ujs and removed the engine. This aft I'm going to start rebuilding the front axle...

Just in the process of building my Richards chassis up, axles on now and all painted up.
Lets know how you go on, pics an all:D

Painted mine so as it dont look like a galv one, it'll get nicked for sure if I leave it shiny
Gave it several coats of patio/brick cleaner via a trigger spray then steamed it off ready for the Dulux outdoor metal paint
Seems to be sticking ok even when I drop things on it.
off to look at pics now:D
 
Not sure whether to paint it or not, I really want to start spannering it back together now....Just spent three hours stripping and painting battery tray and bulkhead/steering mounts.

Did you not use any "mordant" stuff? I can't work out how much I'd need...

I used brick cleaner to dull the galv down, cost less than four quid for 5 litres (think they undercharged me) at builders yard
You could see galv smoking when I applied it, good stuff, prob the wrong way to do it but I'm a cheapo:rolleyes::)
only used half of it for three applications
 
I remember the excitement when I picked up my new chassis from Richards Feb 2013.It doesn't stay that shiny for long!I never bothered painting it, just injected clear waxoyl into the chassis and covered the outer with black waxoyl.Should have it finished by end of summer.Best of luck with the project and remember everything takes twice as long as you think it will!
