I meant the boat engines. But aye. Im mega paraboid about rust.

The raw water coolled ones do rust from the inside out, especially the exhaust manifolds, in fact the manifolds are basically service items because if they rot out water gets into the cylinders wrecking the engine.

What do you mdan by oiler? The engine as a whole?

Im not masavly fussed as to what goes into it tbh.

I quits like the td5 thats in it if it wasnt for some steep hills.

The main draw to the vw/audi powerlant is that its there sitting at my dads and free.

Theres also some advantage to it being fhe same engine that is in my dads toureg so spares parts on the shelf.

But the ecu issue might kill the project. Ive contacted a range of ecu buders progrMmers and tuners hopefully some or all of them will provide valuable information.

Cheers.

If you already have the engine at hand, I think you best bet going forward would be to get a stand alone ECU to run the engine without the complexities of CAN interface between body control, transmission and ABS/traction control.
There are quite a few to look at by way of possible options to consider, with cost and programmability being the key factors.....

Of course you would need the engine's original harness to splice any new system into, if you do not want to go through the hassle of making a new harness complete with the various connectors that you would have to buy separately.
Looking forward to seeing you getting this done.
All the best with this, and as always, we are on hand to see you through it all successfully.
