Hello,

Iv'e just had a week where i have had to chase a so called mechanic (mobile) to come and fit new brake pipes and bleed the system.
Bearing in mind all the brake calipers are new and arn't attached to any pipes.

It took him:
Day 1---2 hours to cut and flair new rear brake pipe
Day 2---never turned up
Day 3---3 hours then decided to tell me he tought there should have been one brake pipe on each wheel and not two.
Day 4---3 hours to fit rear brake pipe and finnish off front pipes.
Day 5---no show
Day 6---he came while i was away and aparently finnished the job.

SO..I try the pedal and its seems soft, slowly drove the car back and fourth and the pedal doesn't seem to have much resistance.

I now have to call him back to try and sort this.

It seems to me the brakes have not been bleed properly or could there be another problem?

I get all the good luck....lol

Have you paid him?
If not don't.
Take the vehicle on a trailer to a council MOT station for a MOT.
Sue the ass off the 'mechanic' for unsafe work.
 
That mechanic should stick to dogging and leave cars alone.

I'm a noob inexperienced DIY mechanic, took me 3 hours to replace brake pads, discs, brake pipes I bought premade for a disco 1 just had to bend them into the right shape under 4 quid each.

Ok it did take me 6 hours to overhaul all callipers so wouldn't be viable paying a mechanic to do that might as well buy new.

Can be hard to find a good honest experienced mechanic these days :(
Really doesn't sound like you have a lot of work to be done!
 
I just wanted a rest from working on the car after removing the axles and giving the them a good old clean up and paint job, like i said new springs dampers calipers n pads, also cleaned up some of the chasis too.

I could of done the job myself if i had bought a flaring tool.
But.
Working a 60 hour week ontop...sometimes we all need a rest...lol

Sounds like doggy is what he's doing to you?

At the risk of stating the obvious, brakes aren't something to mess around with. I'd take it elsewhere.
 
4 hours for the whole job maximum. I am a mobile mechanic and yes it does take longer on the ground than using a ramp but it should be do-able in 4 hours. I use a vacuum bleeder on brakes and carry an air compressor to power it if the pedal is spongey the job has not been done properly get another mechanic to inspect the work and send the report to the original asking him what he wants to do about it.

I hate dodgy mechanics they give us all a bad name

There's two sides to that coin mind on the one hand its more work to put it right and also have to inspect the previous work done for safety but it does keep us paid.
 
True. But as I say I wish people knew their limitations. And more to the point. Mates who tell ya they can fix it when they can't ain't really mates!

I came home from work on day six and he had completed the job. Or so he told me on the phone.
Test drove the disco and brakes were very spongy (thats soft on foot at the pedal and nothing to do with dogs)
So i phoned him and got him to come back the next day, he re-bleed the brakes with my help and voila....the brakes seem ok now.
Not the tidiest of jobs but me car is now usable.
Total bill £80...not complaining at that.

Next job replace body mount bushes as the disco is listing on the drivers side, changing the springs and dampers did not cure this..grr.

Any advice or help with this would be great, i'd like to change these without lifting the body completely off, just raise raise it back first then front if it can be done that way.
 
The brakes seem ok after a few drives but will get them redone after the body mount bushes and inner wings are all replaced.
