dog ramp

Right it sounds a bit soppy but our German shepherd has reached the grand old age of 8 and has gone a bit soft on his rear coils. He struggles like billy buggery to jump into the back of our 110. Looked at some dog ramps and quite pricey just wondered if anybody had any ideas for a diy version that can be stored in the car (preferably on the floor of the second row) there is a towball and flip down step on the back.

ffs heidi!!! ah see what you mean about 'quite pricey' 70quid fer a dod of ply wood and two hinges, covered in a carpet fitter off cut.

good excuse to buy a rear mounted winch perhaps? - pulley fitted inside to roof, harness for dog with hook - just like they do for air sea rescue.

looks a goodun not sure if it would sit flat on second row floor , I still need to get the kids in aswell. your first suggestion looks most favourable dont know how the hinges would stand up to his weight though.

Love it , definitely draw some crowds when we go on holiday, can just imagine the winching operation sat on yarmouths sea front ,do you think I'll need a ground anchor ?

My labrador retreiver's 12 now and hasn't been able to jump into the landy for a few years. I just pick the bugger up and chuck him in

Tried that a few times and his reaction was at best open disgruntlement coupled with wookie noises , and at worst sheer panic coupled with minor aggression.When you're stood at the back end of a 8 year old panic stricken gsd snot pretty.

mine didn't like it at first but he's had to face up to it if he wants to go to the beach etc. Now he just stands there waiting to be picked up

S'worth a try ( not the bitch I mean , I'd never get him out ..... literally ) I'll see if I can knock up something home made first and if that don't work he's gonna have to suffer until he gets used to it.

my dogs only a puppy and hes reached the ripe old weight of 8 stone and fully grown will be 15 and he cant be arsed to jump up so ive got put hs front legs up first then lift his back legs in after ill have a hernia before the end of the year

I think you ought to think about some sort of surgical support, by the time he's fully grown it'll be like lifting a pit pony.

the only other alternative is chicken he likes that alot but im working on it but that dog ramp looks like a plan
