As Nodge says, it ain't only exhaust fumes causing the gunk to build up
Very little of the gunk in the inlet manifold is from exhaust fumes. It's 90% oil from the turbo, which is partially burned. This is why it's so gloopy and difficult to shift. If you look at the exhaust link pipe to the EGR, you'll see it's hardly dirty at all.
In my experience, EGR cleaner products are just snake oil and nothing more. The only sure way to clean the EGR valve and manifold by washing out with a solvent like kerosene or petrol.
