I am looking for something for a little laneing and maybe
some more challenging stuff later if I enjoy the off road experience,

Seen this one and I just love the colours,,
it would need to double up as a fun motor and a back up for our main car incase that breaks down

Land Rover Discovery 200 TDi 5dr Auto 2.5

Mind you if I get to use it as much as I want,
it will be mainly brown anyway..

All advice is good advice..

Thanks in advance

I take it I would need to have a really good look underneath,,

inner arches and other general rust areas,,
anywhere else in particular??

I suppose scraping and rubbing damage from off roading as well??

Is there a what to look for when viewing a Discovery 1 ??

inner wings sills boot floor rear door shuts front foot wells. the d1 don't suffer on chassis but body swiss cheese, d2's body sorted but put on a rusty chassis from factory. I would look out for painted filler and hdden rust. like i say i could be wrong but seen to many minters being a pile of crap underneath and seen loads of dogs that are straight mechanical wise. The old saying about "polishing a turd!!"

Thanks,,
your honesty is best to avoid disappointment,
its 178 miles from me too so I don't want to travel that far
and not know what I am looking for.

Is the body all metal??
would the old magnet trick work??

The out skin is aluminium so your magnet isn't going to work. The inner shell is steel and that's where you need to look, boot floor, sills, front inner arches, floor to sills, rear xmember. These areas need a good looking at.

And to add to this list rear inner 1/4 panel, rear seat belt mounts at doors, outer wings at rear doors, front body mount points, and the whole of the front floor.
Maybe i should of just said anything that's steel. :D
Also reference the d1 chassis if you can check where the rear cross member (big round bar infront of rear wheels) joins the two sides together, common rust spot on the d1 and a pain in the ass to fix right.

I went to look at this a couple of weeks ago, the same day I bought my Defender .. It's literally a few miles from where we live now, just at the end/start of a nice little green lane .. :)

It's also a **** heap ..

First glance all looks nice, Juliet (the wife) loved the funky colour, and to a 'normal' car owner it's nice and shiny and valeted. To a Landrover it's awful. The bumpers and valances are/were all highly polished black and look like patent shoes. It smelled like air freshener hadn't been spared ...

Rust in the boot floor, cills, wheel arches, in all 'the usual places'. They wouldn't let me drive it, they didn't know about the Hi-Lo, Diff lock linkages and didn't like it when I wanted to start the engine and try them! They didn't eve like me turning it on and trying all the switches, windows and lights!

He wouldn't move _at all_ on price, with the excuse that they were 'selling it for someone else' ...

I avoided it and would suggest anyone else does.

I will restart the hunt for the right one,,pleased I am not in a rush..
seems like he who rushes ends up with rust on their face..

Thank you all for your information..
