Dodgy odometer display

I need help please. The LCD odometer on my mk1 freelander has what looks like a black splodge a cross it, preventing me from seeing the numbers. Is this fixable, and if so can I do it myself?[emoji17]
 
"splodge" usually means the liquid crystal display has died.

I don't know if you can get the display on it's own, but best option might be just to grab another cluster, pull the display unit out and swap it over?

Anyone tried this before?
 
Thank you all, I'll go to my local breakers yard and see what I can pick up. Jrnorway it was first registered in 2001

I've never seen dead pixels looking like that. It looks more as someone has been poking it with a pen. I'd have to strip that down and investigate.
