We have since had at least one truck fire resulting in a total loss of tractor unit and trailer.

I had my extinguisher moved to be accessible while still in seat & belt on in the truck. No way am I going to be crispy.

Our drivers stole most of the spare bulb kits!
Ours are not allowed to do anything bar top up the oil and screen wash, be surprised how many get that wrong as well!
Screenwash in the coolant, overfill the oil especially the old boys, but we always stick in a few litres a day, adblue in the derv, derv in the adlue.
Young drivers who are afraid of their own shadows and wont go out with a nplate bulb out, then there are the others who will keep on driving with half their lights out and tyres off the rim!

No, my old company removed the extinguishers from their fleet of 300 company cars because in over ten years there was only two incidents of car fires and in both case the cars in question were others that our drivers stopped to help. In one of the cases our driver lifted the bonnet to tackle the fire and there was a flashback causing 1st degree burns to his hands and face. He was in hospital for nearly 3 months. Our insurers tried to wriggle out of the injury claim because he wasnt on company usiness and he was trying to protect an asset that had nothing to do with our company. We removed the extinguishers and told the drivers to get out and let it burn if their car caught fire.

But in space it doesnt fall and roll away it floats in space in front of you...
 
Had an engine fire in an "Anglebox", lifted the bonnet at arms length and gave it the whole 5 seconds of a poxy little Simonize extinguisher, it actually worked, put it out just like that, whoosh. I was really impressed, had an extinguisher in every vehicle since......................I even have one on my lawn tractor, the reason being if it did catch fire it would take too long to get back to the workshop to get one. And I don't think there will be any problem with powder settling on my 90.
 
I wouldn't use a powder or foam extinguisher unless was in big trouble.

I have a couple of firesticks that work very well and also don't take up much space so they're easy to put somewhere that's easy to reach from the drivers seat.

Yup, works in a TD5 D2 too. mine did it last year when an injector oring failed. got very smokey, pulled over to see what was wrong and then started to over-rev so I jumped in and stalled it. Towed it home, cleaned out the intercooler, blew out the bores etc and replaced the injector washers and seals and away it went again :)

Well, 4th or 5th. In first you stand a chance it driving off. But aside from that, yes, jam it into top gear and dump the clutch. Properly dump it too, not feather. You don't want to be burning the clutch out before the engine stops.
Posting just in case anyone else is unfortunate enough to need to do this to their wagon - done it once, a runaway really does sound like the "end of the world".

As mine is automatic that would be a bit difficult, I could stick it in D and see if it burns out the Torque Converter, maybe drive it into a tree, gently, :eek: in D then jump out and try to do the rag thing!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Or maybe try to put it in low range press mode then put it in 3. Bet it wouldn't let you....:(:(:(:(
