I was going to use the 'Introduce Yourself' section, but then thought I would 'kill two birds with one stone' and raise a question at the same time.

Hi,
My names Ray and I have recently purchased a Series 2 (1967) 88" Landy. I live on the Isle of Wight.

Anyway, on driving the aforementioned Landy the other day, I noticed she started suffering from clutch slip. I have now removed the gearbox to find the clutch plate and inner bell housing covered in oil. On closer inspection I noticed the oil was leaking from the clutch release assembly on the gearbox, seeping past the gasket joint. When checking the gearbox oil level, I found it almost empty

Obviously, it would be easy just to remove the clutch release assembly and replace the gasket. However, I am a tad concerned about the amount of play between the clutch release plunger (if thats what you call it!?) and the bronze bearing it moves in. Also, the gearbox drive shaft is a sloppy fit through the plunger. Surely if the plunger and drive shaft are not a tight fit, oil will leak past and cover the clutch plate?

So, can someone tell me how much play should exist on the clutch release mechanism in general?

I'm now considering just fitting a Series 3 gearbox, because apparently, they have a much simpler clutch design? I'm also concerned by the number of miles this gearbox has covered with very little oil.

Any advice would be much appreciated :)
