Went out to the car last night intending to use it to go to a pub quiz but found the rear passenger door had an issue with the quarterlight window (may not be the correct naming but the non-moving bit) having been shattered. It was probably done when the council came round strimming the verges but as that was a few days ago and I have not been to the car since it is kind of irrelevant.

Question is how complex is the replacement? As anyone who has seen my other posts knows I am bloody useless at anything too complicated but I am willing to have a go if I will not make it worse.

Should I try or just go to some Autoglass clone and leave it to them?
 
If the price seems fair, let the professionals do it. though I can't see autoglass being cheap.
Not done a Freelander myself but on other cars it has been a case of slow and careful.
Usual fixings are on top and bottom of the glass guide. Have you a manual ?
 
No fixings on rear quarter. Drop main glass fully. Start at bottom front edge of quarter and gently ease out the outer black window seal. When seal is off from main window area then the quarter just pulls forward. Pull from top and tilt.

Pop new glass in and refit.

If you kink the seal then a replacement will be needed.

But be careful not to bend or kink the seal as it has (probably rusty) steel inside and will never look right if it's bent then straightened.
 
Forgot to say, I did download a manual and it was sort of helpful. Some of the instructions assumed a degree of experience rather than usable details (remove the trim - How, crowbar? Cutting torch? Expeliarumus spell?) but in general it gave enough guidance. I don't think I will ever feel comfortable with the force needed to un-pop the clips though as it seems to be a coin toss between enough to unclip and enough to snap bones.

Had to remove the door card to get to the two screws and two nuts which hold it in place but then was just careful leverage as the glass flexes amazingly when you twist the frame even the slightest
