Hi all,

my front door handles are both suffering from the sticks-out-a-bit when closed issue.
I've found the associated threads on the cause and remedy for this but have come to a halt because having removed the handle (including removing the pesky clip without breaking anything) but I can't see how to dismantle the handles further to get at the offending areas that need cleaning/grinding to get rid of the lip.
Any advice most welcome

You need these STC3063 and STC3064. To repair door handles.
 
Once you have the door handles off the vehicle, then it can be a bit of a pain to get the pins out. What I did on mine (since the cams were being replaced with the ones in the kit) was to use a pair of cutters and a sharp knife to cur part of the plastic awa, so I could get a firm grip on the roll pin.. This allowed me to pull the pin out and get the old cam/spring out and then clean it all up to refit the new parts.

As PPP38vouge mentions, there was a writeup on Rangerovers.net with decent photos on it and which bits you can safely chop off.

Now, the engineer in me is screaming at me to sort out my vocabulary, but do you have to 'break' the old ones out/off? The replacements come with a pin and spring but I can't see a way to remove the old ones.
 
As I mentioned - when I did mine, I used a sharp knife/razor saw and side cutters to break away the outermost part of the black plastic cam (as it's the main part that gets replaced) so I could then grab the end of the roll pin and pull it out to releace the cam/spring.

Funnily enough... the second link that Grrrrrr posted above has pictures in it from me when I did mine...

You can either carefully break the old part off or use a small tap in the roll pin to get a grip then cafefully pull it out.

Just spotted that Marty, I'll get the parts and give that a go....or the tap method....or cry..... :)
 
Either way it should come out! A bit of WD-40 or penetrating oil on the parts to begin with can help, as it's a metal pin in the metal fitting. Other than that - you know to watch out for the arm on the end of the key barrel, so other than that it is fairly straightfoward... Until you go about trying to get the new bit back in, and the roll pin back in with the spring under tension, and wish that you had a 3rd hand to hold one of the parts!

Took me a couple of goes, but it all went back together in the end. I really should do my passenger door one at some point!
