I was told by a chap over the weekend that he runs his 1995 disco on vegetable oil and has done for years, without any problems or any modification to his disco, he said in summer he runs it only on veggie oil and in winter if it’s really cold he will run it on half diesel half veg oil, he said he really hasn’t had any problems and that any disco can be run on veg oil without modification up to the w reg, as long as the injector pump is a rotary one. What do you think of that.
 
Do a search and you'll see that many people here do exactly that.
Been running mine on 80% veg for a few months now and she runs beautifully. I'd even argue that she prefers it to derv.
 
What about rapeseed oil, a hotelier I Know can get it for £20 + vat for 25 Ltrs I can do a deal with him as I do all his electrical and equipment maintenance for him

I had no idea that you could use it without any adjustment
 
when R.Diesel patented it's engine, it was described as using vegetable oil ...

my '95 300TDi is fed with vegetable oil (mostly filtered used frying oil, sometimes fresh rapeseed oil) 30% all seasons, up to 50-60% in summer
no specific modification or adjustment was needed, the fuel filter had to be changed more frequently in the first months as the vegetable oil effectively cleans the circuit from all deposits left by "pure derv"

Cleans the system out that’s interesting, as I said I had no idea that is was as simple as putting it in your tank, thanks for the imfo
 
pay attention that the cleaning effect has also unwanted side effects : fuel filter clogging by a lot of gum coming from the tank and fuel pipes, worn injector nozzle starting to leak after the calamin has been dissolved, bore being washed clean so compression lowers ... that's why I stick to a low percentage
even if there is no specific adjustment to perform, I would advise having the injectors checked (new nozzles, and opening pressure adjusted in the high zone of the range to get a fine mist) and engine compression checked to be sure you don't have oval bores and worn out piston rings
 
Back in the days when I was in the terries, when in Germany on start up there was a device in the cab that took cannisters of pure ether used in the winter to fire it up as the crap the military used as derv had been in bunkers since WW 2 some of the guys in the REME used it to decoke the engines and jeez did they smoke so I rekon veg oil must be an improvement

there is no vat on veg oil and i suspect he is getting 20l for £20. Also not sure its up to W reg 300Tdi ok, TD5 i have had mixed replies so not sure.

you have to declare to the goverment if you use 2000 litres or more for vat (i think) theres a link on here somewhere with the exact amount. i used to check online for the deals with tesco or asda , also macro have deals on veg used to be £17 for 20 lts, in winter add 5% petrol has the same principle as ether thins it down and stops it freezing but would recomend using all diesel in winter , also when using veg oil have a spare fuel filter with you they block up quickly using veg oil

2500 lts in any 12 month period is the personal allowance,tax free-first litre after that,and you pay tax on the lot
 
its all on the veg oil forum , go google , my linky thing isnt working on this computer.....

300tdi's tend toward ring gumming when running on a lot of SVO/WVO but you can spot this early from increased crank case comp, among other things, and steam clean the engine and alls good, injector pump seal is another one,get it replaced with viton if need be. Common rail engines like Td5 may require some prep. All will work better/longer on a twin tank system that uses DERV to start, switches to VO when engine is up to running temp ad then back to DERV for the last few miles.
 
over 2500 L per rolling 12 months is all subject to road fuel duty.

No vat is payable as you are not selling it, Vat is only chargable if you are selling somthing that is vatable and you are a vat registered company. Veg oil is not vatable as its food.

keep records of how much you put in and total at the end of each month and don't go over 2500L in the last 12 months.
