1995 300tdi manual discovery.
Drove fine to drop kids off came back to it after only a few minutes and nothing when turning the key.
So,,,it's early discovery I have no key fob (never have) I do have a bullet shaped item which I press onto a round metal boss on the dash this then brings the glow plug light on and then it starts on the key.
What I have done.......direct wire feed from ignition to starter solenoid.
Direct feed from ignition to fuel pump cut off.
It will know crank over but will not start.
I have found the black ecu in nearside footwell but don't know if it's that ?
Can I bypass the ecu ?
Any help appreciated
Phil.

Check your fuses.
Mine cut out at traffic lights once - cranked but wouldn't fire.

Turned out to be a 10A fuse. Changed there and then and carried on without further bother.

check fuel cut off.

There is no ECU in a D1. BUt there is a spider that controls the immobilser. LR do a Bypass for it, As it caused so many problems due to shoddy soldering.

Ok thanks for replies.
What is the black box with two plugs and a socket like an arial with a arial type plug in it ?.
Also if I knock it the hazard lights flash,& only go off when I've put the key in ignition & turned on then off.

That's your security ECU so alarm, central locking and immobiliser. You don't have a spider immobilising system.
If your not using the fob but a key in the drivers door lock then Turing the key operates micro switches which set your alarm and also immobilises the engine, it has been known for the switch or their plastic operating cam to be faulty, remove the door card to check.

But then as I appears u have an after market immobiliser is it not possible that it has a fault.

Hmmmm, yes there is! But not ALL of them!

The 300Tdi Auto's have an ECU as their fuel is controlled by EDC, this is identifiable by the black box type thing on top of the injection pump as well as No4 injector (nearest the bulkhead) that has an electrical connection.

The EDC versions have no Spider due to the ECU controls

Ok this maybe something to do with it as when locking drivers door over the past few days the key seemed stiff to turn.
Will have a look behind door card when I get a chance in daylight.
Phil.

Had a look in drivers door today, found a box which is attached to look mechanism with wires coming out, when unlocking & locking with key I can feel the box "pulse" is this the correct box of tricks I should be looking at ?.
Cheers,Phil.

Will try and get a pic next time I get chance.the box I was looking at was attached with a small metal rod and measures around 80mmx30mmx50mm if I remember correctly.

I know it's been a long time but I've just got the disco running !!
So this is what happened, after market alarm fitted which failed .
By passed this with new supply to starter and to fuel cut off.
Turned out supply I put in for fuel cut off had 12v when ignition on but not when switched to start,so put direct from battery .
Now it turned over but still not starting, check fuel to injectors none !!,
Worked my way through fuel system to lift pump not working,(remember it was alarm fault to start with)
Took it off arm had jammed up freed it off put it back on hey presto started once I'd bled system through.
So I was in right area to start with just the other faults which by chance happened threw me off.
Been running the 110 in mean time so this is why it's taken me so long to get round to sorting it.
Hope this may help someone else in future.
