I'm currently having a 200tdi conversion done to my 90. I have been told that a disco transfer box will make improvements. However I have read that a 90 and 110 have different gear ratios and that the transfer box will not make a lot of difference to a 90.
Anybody know anything or can help out with this please.

Thanks

Andy.

I don't know where you read that, but it's not true.

Discovery TXB ratios are longer than standard Defender ratios. This is partly due to ratio correction because of tire sizes that the vehicles run as standard, and the nature of the life the type of vehicle was perceived to have when sold new.

Discovery TXB on a Defender is a popular modification if you want more relaxed cruising and a little better MPG on long runs. You may fall foul a little performance wise though if you do lots of towing, but by and large it's a good mod.

it does make a good difference ,but maybeto high wuth really large tyres or if heavy towing etc ,gearbox ratios are all similar ,difference is in t/box,in theory can add 20mph ish to speed but really enhances cruising speed/revs ,disco is 1.2 and defender 1.4 usually ,but some early defenders are 1.6

Yes I can help. There's a little box at the top called a search box. Use it and you will get your answer.

Have you seriously tried using the search function??? Its easier to google your question and pick out the response from the landyzone site than to use the forum search function which seems to be totally random!

Yes I use it regularly! And 90% of time I find my answer. I searched for the same question the OP has asked and guess what???? I found the answer loads of threads on the topic!

gotta agree here, i find it a pita to use.
unless you like trawling thru endless useless threads....

google, then use links to lz.

I did it on my 90 and all was good until i put 265/75/16 insa dakars on and now it feels gutless pulling away so putting the defender box back on.

What engine you got? TDi?

265/75 are roughly 31.5" diameter. Big tyres, but not huge by off roading standards. Your Landy shouldn't feel gutless with them on, not even with a Disco TXB.

Maybe you do have to trawl through threads but most questions, like the OP's or a what size tyre can I fit has answers when you search. That's why it's there.
Not exactly rocket science.

maybe my search criteria is a bit obscure, but hey ho, we get there in the end!
each to their own!

The search is crap....thats why so many people ask the same question and the same few people tell them to do a search...if you like the search then you go use it. The rest of us will use Google or run the gauntlet of being flamed by the "use the search" trolls, either way, you get an answer!:D
