I have almost exactly the same prob, but mine wont start at all.
If I get it going ok ill let you know if you could do likewise-see my new thread for what Ive tried-are you sure we dont own the same disco?!
regards
Foss

hi every one had it bck today done pressure tests and every thing and they have eliminated the engine and said its the pipes that run along the chassis to the rear thats the only thing i never changed i did change the 4 that go to the fuel pump but not the chassis ones theyre not holding pressure wen tested so i did order them last week off them as i was going to change this my self but its on bck order so wen it comes in i take the disco bck so they can sort it... yahooooooo

hi Ultra150 did you get sorted out ,mine goes back to dealer on monday to hopefully get sorted out , I was ringing them but kept not returning my calls so dropped by and told them not sorted in 14 days money back or a replacement please . they looked at my car they drove it said its fine so I told him a LR dealer had driven it and he said that they is a fault with it.upset them a bit but it does need to be sorted as mpg is really poor when it plays up 10 mpg , when running ok 22 mpg , it does appear to be better but still plays up Revs bounce from 2600 -2750 every second or so when in p or n ,Sounds as tho an injector is firing correctly and then not so good.got everyone puzzled, will let you know if it does get sorted.

hi foss no its going as it should now really flies its defanatlly the pipes letting air in if it goes to a qurter of a tank it does it as theres not that much fuel in the tank and it lets the fuel drop .because air gets in when its over qurter of a tank theres more fuel in the tank which stops it because the pump and pipes on the pump are submerged in diesel so it acts like a plug basically more fuel no air as the fuel is heavier than air so it doesent let the fuel drop back towards the tank no fualts on engine pipes were pressure tested from the two pipes that go into four that go into the fuel pump, tested and pressure drops fast which does indicate pipes at fault or conections but ive replaced the fuel pump pipes but not the ones that go over chassis to engine which are getting done monday but preformance wise it motors now with out missing i had over boost issuse that was corrected by a actuator selanoid that controls the boost to turbo.... sorted its just them pipes now which will be sorted monday

it was the turbo boost causing missing and limp mode but ok now. ive got a twisted performance hi power chip on mine which makes it a beast for power lm just glad its all sorted.... it was fitted b4 all these problems started....

mab1 ask them to try a new ecu on it to see if its that at fault as you say it comes and goes its worth a try???? you wont have to pay for it if its not at fault????

foss if it was the actuall ecu harness it would cause all sortes of stored faults all the time even after faults were cleared they would come bck yes that maybe your problem but sorry it wasent mine hope you get it sorted as mine doesent miss a beat now jst air in mornings due to the leaking well pipes letting air in when standing

if there is bad ingress of oil in loom you can actually clean this out of the loom by using metho taking the connection off were it goes to the head and taken the ecu plug and make a bottle fit the connection wer it came from the head and pour down and wait till clear and then dry and reconnect its mentioned on ere i think or was it a google search

thanks ultra150 will let them know ,also will let them know about the fuel line ,not really noticed until you mentioned it but fuel does seem to last alot longer when i have more the 1/3 of a tank fuel and the problem is not as bad when i have more than 1/3 of a tank of fuel.
let you know the out come at the end of the week.
have tried ecu no difference.
thanks again

how things?
I picked my car up tonight. The ECU fix & Harness seem to have sorted things, however I am slightly lacking power through the gears-about 90% of what I used to have I reckon.Apparently this is often an issue when the injector washers are changed on "black top" injectors, & the power will return after a couple of hundred miles.
Starts like a dream , everything is A1 except the marginal power loss-but for now, I can live with that as my bank balance is pretty desperate now!!!
How is yours?
Paul

ps You sent me a PM but you are set not to receive them....

sound thanks foss but wat did they do to your ecu ???? mine is faulty causing missing. so im going to go down your route new loom and ecu ive had a loom from an 04 disco td5 mint no oil contamination but no ecu as yet

Hi mate
I sent it to Gary Wood @ TD5 Alive, google it & you can get contact details off their site.
My ECU was only sending a signal to Inj 3, not 1,2,4 & 5!! The ECU was spiked by the oil in the main harness. The car passed an injector click test on Autologic too, so that obviously isnt always a reliable route.
I sent it off on a friday, he called me Monday & I had it back Tuesday morning-top service.
Basically, he takes an ECU he has already repaired & tested & knows is 100%.
Then he takes off the Alarm/Immobiliser & injector codes off your ECU & transfers them on to the reconned ECU,basically cloning the knackered one.
It was £80 for the initial test & £150 for the replacement ECU.
I checked my old harness when it was taken off-oil in all ends of the cables, even to starter motor connection.
Plugged the whole lot in & it started like it was a new car-I barely have to turn the key, no ****!
My mechanic reckons its running on about 90% of the power I had before it broke down, sometimes its a bit like trying to drive in 4th gear at 30mph if you know what I mean, but Ive found thats normally on a hill when Im not giving it enough throttle; but to be honest mine was never that quick & its often the case if you have black top injectors rather than the later green top ones that when youve also changed the injector washers, the power drops slightly & "should" return after a few hundred miles.Ive driven it all weekend & done 200 miles since yesterday morning. No misses & starts on the button.Went off road today & coped with everything I threw at it as it used to.
Pleased its all sorted-well til the next thing goes wrong!
Let me know how you get on
Foss
