i will try that now thanks hope this helps ive just taken the fuel filter off to try to blow through it its hard to do so do you leave the bottom on the filter to do this ????

you were right just took the fuel pump apart and got to the other filter and wat a mess it was covered and blocked with all kinds of crap thanks alot mate :)

Pleasure mate is,nt great when you find the fault and it costs nothing. Suggest you clean that tank though re use the fuel just filter the cra out:):):):)

You have to remove the pump body (the white plastic casin) Its held on by plastic clips 3 ithink located around the top rim. be carefull their flimsy. Juggle the body off think you have to unclip the sender from body and feed the flexi fuel pipe through. Been a while since i done mine you will see a fine filter at the base good luck.

INCREDIBLE!!!

I fitted a new pump YESTERDAY!

This was because of a fairly abrupt loss of power during the run home on Tuesday, and a fail to start at all on Tuesday evening.

The pump was making NO noises that I could hear, the fuel filter was clean and clear (but I fitted a new one anyway), and I assumed (I still do) that the fuel pump motor has packed in.

After reading your bit quoted above, I took the old pump apart just as you said, AND ALL THE SCREENS AND MESHES WERE BLOCKED WITH BLACK CRAP! The pump came apart perfectly easily, and as you said, one just needs to be very gentle with the little clips and tags holding it together.

There are TWO screens, the easy one on the outside that just unclips, and then one INSIDE that is a slight (but only slight) fiddle to get to. It all just unclips just like the man says. A small sharp pointed knife unclips the small clips very neatly, and there is ONE inside that isn't too easy to see that holds the fuel level sender on. This needs to be unclipped but the wires do NOT need to be taken off, and no fuel hoses needed to be fed through anywhere.

Oh My God ... maybe my £200 spent on a new pump wasn't needed after all!!!!

Does anyone need a second-hand slightly used TD5 Disco pump? Only £199.99 !

What an amazing forum this is.

lol yeah your right thanks for your help and for solving my problem your a star thankyou charlesy

Well very kind, BUT, we have to thank MASTERMAC because that was all his suggestions, not mine.

If it had happened two days sooner I might have saved myself buying a new pump!

However, if the old one turns out to be working after the big clean-up, I have a running spare, and when you own a LandRover that is never a bad idea!

I will test it out over the weekend. I think I will shove it back in the tank and see if it works, or maybe just plug the socket onto it because if it whines up it's a runner. But alas, it may be deceased .... sob ....

I might try this as my td5 lost all power and seems to have 1 cylinder not running at all(very loud ticking/knocking). could it all be connected?

Doubt it TC sounds like a totally different fault possible injector or loss of compression in one pot /valve piston etc. /you could also go for the more common fault if not already done. Injector harness oil in ecu etc been loads of posts on here about it Defo sounds like you might benefit from a diagnostic plug in to determine fault but check the above first.

Bugger, ok thanks. i have done the inj harness and checked ecu. possible injector gone down then. hope my local guy has the diag machine.
Ted.

if its ticking and missing on a single pot its possibly a bent valve a broke injector or compression problem . is it smoking ?? what other symptoms do you have

mine has a knock on the fall off of the throttle it holds its revs just above normall for a few seconds and knocks never known the problem of it and dont think i ever will as no one seems to know what it is .. and then idles perfect no knock also if you let the hand brake of and roll it as its idling it does it intill you stop its not the running gear it been checked along with hand brake its the engine... it juggles and knocks mad

Sounds more like there could be something loose in there.

Start looking at engine mountings and so on. This sounds like a silly hard-to-find easy problem more than an expensive one.

TD5 has a funny dual mass flywheel, and they can cause trouble.
