Hi all

I'm going to look at my first Discovery on Sunday, now its a 3 door van body 300tdi engine with 145,000miles it has a couple of surface rust patches and some lacquer missing from the roof and a small stone chip on the window. I'v also been told that on start up theres a puff of black smoke. Its up for sale for £1600

Now as this is my first Discovery i want your opinions as to these faults and also what is it worth, but mainly what else should i look out for when i go to view it on sunday?

any help and advice would be superb.
many thanks
Kyle

Forgot to say its a 1998

Not too much to worry about with the mechanical side of things just do the usual checks you would on any vehicle, eg smoke, oil leaks, coolant, engine noise etc. Then get under it and try and find some bodywork that hasn't rotted away. Boot floors, wheel arches, body to chassis mounts, inner wings, all the stuff behind the headlights, sills, footwells, you name it it could be rotten.

I've just today bought a 1994 Discovery 1, 300 TDI, i asked the same questions last week :)

I saw three, look out for rust holes at door frame bottom corners near the rear arch, inner wings in engine bay, my one needed welding on one side for MOT, and rear floor, also rust along window trim.

I get a little puff of crap on revving but then clears, no crap blowing out with foot down at 70, also a little chuff whern starting up.

I've got a dent in the bumper, dodgy headlining and a sunroof that wont open but am i happy with it - oh yes:p I bought it to tow a trailer around rally fields so its not my main car and just has to be taken warts and all. Its got a full MOT so np worries until next year.

Hi Dave
Hope you don't mind me asking but what mileage has it got on it and what did you pay for it?
thanks
Kyle

Well i got fed up with rusty ones and bad locations form private sellers and i'm an impatient bugger as well so i went to a dealer in the end.

Its got 116k on the clock, backed up with MOT's and i paid £1800 for it with new MOT and 3 months tax. I know its probably a bit dear but its got aircon that works and leather seats.

Insurance was £120
