Yeah I hear you in a just for fun scenario, but you really dont need them. The AP calipers are excellent on the disco. Whilst the brakes are off you need to remove the pistons and polish up the sealing surfaces, fit new seals too for the cost. Once you have braided lines with new fluid you will be amazed how quickly it will pull up!

Also do not fit vented discs on an off roader, they fill up with mud.

I don't know I was just shooting the breeze and thought it would be different.

I understand what you're all saying so thank you for the sanity check!! I never thought about the vented discs off road, it never occurred to me that they would just get full up with crud all the time. Best stick with the standard calipers and solid discs then :-(

All I wanted was some bling - do ya get mee lol

On another serious note, I received the extended hoses tonight. Now it was supposed to be a set and all I have are three brake pipes. Two are a larger bore than the other.mis this right?
 
Yeah I thought so, damn them.

On a brighter note some new shock absorbers came tonight for me. Umm nice shiny Terrafirma items that are brill looking.

So all I need know are my spring seats and two other hoses. So this weekend I will sort the sill out and paint a bit of the chassis before it gets too cold - weather omitting off course
 
Just be careful that the threads are correct on the brake pipes mate.

I'd be happier sending the 3 pipe set back and getting a 5 pipe set, because the 200 might have different threads/fittings?

I can dig out the goodridge part number for my 5 pipe set if you need it mate.

Discovery Suspension Brakes and Welding

Hi everyone,

Well as requested here are some new pics of all my lovely new stuff ready for going on the vehicle.

I have the following ticked off the list;
  • 3" Bearmach Blue Springs
  • +5" Terrafirma Shocks
  • New Spring Seats
  • New HD Spring Retainers Front and Rear
  • +2" Terrafirma Skeleton Turrets
  • Terrafirma Rear Shock Mounts for Pin-to-Pin Extreme Shocks
  • Terrafirma Rear Dislocation Cones with Grab Hooks
  • Front Terrafirma Dislocation Cones
  • Front HD Turret Rings

I think that is everything. I will sort out the castor arms etc once the suspension is in place.

I have also got ready the new inner wings, front headlight panels and new front body mount panels. Also in the bag of tricks are the new extended seat belt anchorage bolts as I have lifted the body. I will redrill the radiator brackets when fitting the new panels.

So What Happened Today

Well I made up the RHS sill piece for the nearside of the vehicle. I first cut it down the length as before and stitch welded it up. Then I cut it to length and sealed up the ends. I plug welded it in place first and then started to seam weld the joins between the old sill metal and the new RHS. I can honestly say that the little Sealy 150amp china copoff is working a treat and producing some really nice welds.

Seam Sealent - Umm should I?

Well yes you should. I have been quite maticulous in making sure that I am getting penetration - OOHHHH:D Yet tonight when the rain started I noticed that water was seeping through small pin holes. This is what rots your floor. the water runs off the windscreen - NOT WINDERSCREEN, WINDOWSCREEN OR WINDSHIELD - sorry but americanisms aren't my thing, and into the scuttle panel. From there it runs out to to the inner wings but in true ROVER style it is deflected by a small piece of angle spot welded in place. Anyhow mine has fallen off, once again in true ROVER style, and the water now runs down and over the new seam of the patch panel.

So to cut a long boring story short, I have to use seam sealer to ensure water tightness or the ew panels will just rust away as the old ones did. And apparently it doesn't matter how good your welding is, you still need to use seam sealer to make a good job - so there you go!;)

FINALLY BRAKES

Yes I need to refurb/clean up the brakes. so guys any advice???

So what would be the point of spamming a thread? or am I missing the point? I do quite often miss the point and sometimes I have been accused of not listening properly. Cant remember who said that to me as I wasn't paying attention.

Well its Monday morning and its peeing it down with rain, however the little bit of chassis that I painted last night (yeah good idea Ian - black paint on a dark chassis painted at night - umm) had come out really good. Mr Noisy thanks for the advice on Manor Chassis Paint - nice one.

So this week I will be - or maybe - stripping the brakes as it is something that needs doing and can be done in a garage.

Say any advice on refurbish the brakes? I am going to have to put new pipes on the rear axle and also new copper pipe to both front calipers. New pads all round too so thought about a refurb. Any advice
 
great work mate nice to keep them going i'm just welding mine up ready for mot, since found this thread i been reading to keep up with ur progress lol
 
Thanks Shortarse - say you haven't got a bobtail have you lol?

Anyhow progress is somewhat stunted as the nights are drawn in since the clocks went back. So now I only have the weekends to finish things off and due to commitments I have this coming weekend to try and finish all the welding and new panel installation. That means finish off the near side sill, the boot floor and both the inner wings and front panels. Should keep me busy.

Note to self - apologise to the neighbours after waking them up at first light on Saturday lol
 
keep at it Ian it will be finished before you know it, if you want/need a hand just give us a shout!
Then you can come out next time and beat the hell out of it. mines looking a little worse for wear after sundays outing lol
