Ah but I have thought of that, myou see you could rest the weight of the wheel on the rocker cover and that would help squeeze the crappy rubber seal and stop any leaks and then.........

You're right it's just daft...........

Swing away carrier it is then.

Aren't you building/having built an external roll cage? What about side mounted (seeing as how we are voicing silly ideas:D) like the wolf defenders over the back windows, mounted to the cage?

Yah already thourght of that but wouldn't be able to squeeze down a few lanes where I went today, even folded in mirrors still got crushed lol

Roll cage will be worked on soon enough too. Although my mate has more free cash than me at the moment so I can practice on his first.

Lol I'm skinto mate, well if I sold some of the cars I wouldn't be, but wheres the fun in that

Anyway I may of found a cage ready to go...... well thats if they take my **** take offer lol, If not I will order the steel on payday then get bending and welding eh!!

Ah what, I was looking forward to building a cage in readiness for mine. Come on don't fook about, lets make one. Please...............

what thickness and bore you going to be using on ur cage(s)?

Personally I will keep mine the same as the sliders as they take a good hit. That's 60.3mm with a 3mm wall I think. Could be 2.5mm THK

I believe Matt was looking at 48mm dia but I'm sure he will come along and confirm.

If people want pictures, then here's a couple.

I like this one but would have front wing bars too

similar to what im looking at then (steel) im still in 2 minds to go internal or external as its a 3door and i need access to back seats,

Like the red one but id run mine down front wings, but the red one means i can go to the sliders..hmm

Well matey didn't take my offer, so looks like I'll be getting a bender, notcher and a load of tubing, size wise I think it'll be around 50mm need to have a proper measure up to see if I can get away with 3 lengths(22.5mtrs) it will be bolted/clamped to my sliders to make my life easier

Those pics are not using over 2inch... im using scaffolding wich is 2 inch and looks bigger to be honest! What are you going to use as a notcher? Im using a bi metal hole saw, but that only works for the 90 deg joints, the others I print off a template and use a grinder. Are you making it to fsa specs?

TBH external is better of three door. Better for access and also I have seen too many small tumbles where the passengers haven smacked their heads against the roll cage. Another reason why I specifically want an external cage, other than the looks, is that it provides better protection to the body when forcing through tress etc.

So after a day green Laning yesterday, this morning I get up and the front tyre is soft. Obviously I have some crap wedged in between the tyre and the rim, steel modulars are not great off road I have to say. After a half hour stamping on the foot pump I get to go to B and Q to get some tools as the bath drain is blocked.

On the way home the steering seems to be p jelling to one side and then suddenly a low rumbling starts and the car is pulling strongly to the left.

Yep the wheel bearing I'd fooked. I decide to remove it quickly to have a butchers and luckily it all comes off in one piece including the busted inner bearing which has one of its parts turned 90degrees in the bearing cage.

S I call the local specialist and get some fooking muppet on the other end who knows sod all about land rovers. After several minutes, (I have had the pleasure of his ineptness before BTW), I flip my lid and tell him to get stuffed.

Then it starts to snow and I'm stood there looking at the newly MOTd Hornet, in the snow with a fooking wheel missing. #lowpoint

After several calls to other Landy companies nearby, I end up going to the local motor factors no more than a hundred or so yards away. Get the part picked up for me tonight and a call when he has it all for less money that envy one else.

Moral of the story
Always regularly strip and grease your bearings when wading a lot
Try and support your local motor factor. I now get trade prices too.
Don't stand for poor product knowledge from so called specialist. The local company in Tongham has been going for 15 years and my experience with them has been tainted because they have employed a fook wit with less knowledge that both I have and is acceptable. #unemployedbutcoulddohisjob.........

Hope you have got that bearing sorted with all this snow lol, theres almost 10mm out there:roll eyes:

Spoke to my mate last night about using cheap benders and he said they are ****e and not to bother!
he has a proper mandrel bender but the largest die he has for it is 38mm he's also got a load of 38mm cds I could use for a bargain price!! but think it would look a bit thin/small, but now having said that its all about protection and looks are unimportant really, so looks like I might be going that way!
