Afternoon all,

I realise this is a bit like asking how long a piece of string is 'cos there's a stack of variables that effect it...but, just as a general rule of thumb, what's the typical mileage that you would expect to get out of a clutch on a 300Tdi Disco?

Cheers.

in excess of 80k on the road - much less if you use the disco properly

did one last week, D1 190K on orginal clutch

Thanks Sean, going on that then there's every chance mine's on it's original at 114K.

The girlfriend is trying to talk me into doing a Morocco trip in the next year or two, I'm making it really hard for her to convince me!;) By then it'll be up to 130K-ish. Might be worth a clutch swap nearer to the time. Would be a shame to have it go when all you can see for miles is sand!

oh and stop worrying about it you could get run over tomorrow

There is always that, it's not something I'm losing sleep over. Just thinking about it as something to go on the preventative maintenance list. Which probably means I'll not get around to it anyway! :)

I,ve only seen clutches wear out on discos that have been driven by ladies with horse boxes. They usualy break their rivets in the centre first. If they are wearing out you get a bit of notice by clutch slip up hill in too high a gear. If the rivets are about to go you get no warning at all but as the plates are ofter stuck together you can usualy drive without using the clutch for a while. Either way, don.t worry untill it happens. My John deers just gone and thats £1500. Should cheer you up

Nowt to do with Land Rovers, but this is a true story. Way back in the 80’s I worked for a Lada garage (well! someone had to!) An old bloke bought a new Lada 1200, he had walking difficulties and his left leg seemed to be locked solid.
He collected his new car one Monday morning, and we recovered it about two hours later with a burnt out clutch, the car had done less than fifty miles, and that included the PDI road test. The flywheel and pressure plate were blue from heat and the center plate was destroyed. Suspecting driver error I asked the old boy to have a go in one of our courtesy cars, a Lada 1200, this is no word of a lie, due to his leg problem he just stuck the car in top gear and floored the throttle and slipped the clutch instead of changing gears.
I stopped him at once and suggested he was driving the car wrong, he admitted that his old car had gone the same way and thought a new car would be better.
So!! back to the original question, how long does a clutch last?????????
