Hi Guys,

I have 2010 Discovery 4 sdv6 6 speed automatic. Been having alot of issues with it recently. Some i have fixed but theres one that i cant get my head around.

I was getting a gearbox fault intermittently which would throw the car into limp mode pretty much everytime i drove it but it would be randomly. I then had the TCM and valve body replaced and programmed (secondhand) and it worked perfectly for around 6 months. Until now.

Now it doesnt start and comes up with gearbox fault, HDC not available, park brake error etc etc.
The only way i can start it is by using a voltage probe and putting a direct 12v to the starter motor via the relay.

Now the weird bit, when the car is cold, i have to jump start it as said above via the relay. I then have to manually select drive via the “manual lever release” and if i drive it around in limp mode for 5 minutes everything will go back to normal. Once either the engine or gearbox has had a drive and warmed up it all works perfectly. I can turn it off and start it normally wtc without any faults. I can select the gears and all works as normal as if theres no faults. If i wait a few hours for it too go cold it all the faults come back and i have to jump start it etc etc.

I have replaced the tcm and valve body granted it was secondhand which is making think “has it gone again”
I have also replaced the battery twice, as i was told to double check and triple check it wasnt the battery.
The gearbox had a service at the same tieme as the tcm was replaced.

Just strange its temperature related it seems. As i have done the cold start and warm start process a few times now and its identical. As soon as it warms up it will start and run like a dream.

Is the pivot seized on the end of the cable gearbox end?
I did order a new one but havent got round to installing it yet, the gear lever doesnt feel stiff so i put it on the low priority as people were saying the gear lever will feel stiff and different faults will appear to what i have.

Always worth a look, only need to remove rearmost undertray for access.

Hope u don’t mind me adding but see ur battery vdc is at 11.9 volts

Really need to see a min of 12.6 vdc with the engine off so indeed would need charging

Hope that’s also useful to u

Yeah its a good point, i think its because its been sitting a couple of months as this started around 2-3 months ago. I also dont trust the figure on that screen as when testing with a multi meter the battery sits around 12.5v
