Discovery 1 Discovery 300TDI auto

Due to a new job in the city, the time has come to sell my Disco and replace it with a city dwellers car. This is just me sending out feelers as I always need to have access to a car to get to work, and I'll have to find a workaround in the interim between cars. In all honesty, I believe this car is worth over £2000, however as I'd like a quick sale I am open to offers.

Engine is at around 70-80k miles. I have the V5 document of the donor vehicle (Another 300tdi XS auto).

The arches and boot floor have been welded up by the previous owner, there is no major rust problem that I have found (apart from the mud flap brackets) but some surface rust is surfacing that I will patch up.

Tyres are all good, Cooper AT3s, 245/75s I think. I can confirm later. Plenty of tread left and a completely unused spare.

The suspension + shocks are standard height, not originals. The previous owner said the previous owner fit them as a big improvement, and my local mechanic agreed they were all good.

The inside is in really good condition, it has a pioneer stereo and it is very comfortable to drive. I was using it as my daily driver doing 100+ miles each day and didn't have a single problem with it. If I had the space and money I would keep it. The seats are all in pretty good order. The speakers are alright, probably stock. Good enough for my karaoke.

It has a built in dog guard.

The bad points:
-There is a noise coming from the front left brake when the brakes are cold. The pads are getting towards the end of their lives but I don't have a grippy tool to push the piston back. Worst case scenario, a new front caliper set is £80 on ebay.
-It hasn't happened in a few weeks, but the throttle would lose power when at low revs. I've replaced the fuel filter and it seems to be alright but with such an intermittent problem I can't say for sure if it is fixed.
-The snorkel isn't a genuine Safari. Nothing major, but the piping is made by Airflow(?) and my Safari top got pinched, so it is just an ebay jobby on the top (it definitely works, that ford didn't look that deep!)
-The paitwork isn't great. The dotty decals along the skirt is terrible, and it has the usual dings, dents and scrapes.
-It needs a clean. If I get round to it I'll do it.

All in all it is a great Land Rover, and I haven't seen one in as good condition (but I may be biased). I'm sure there is a load of stuff I have missed off. I'm happy if you want to come and view it in the evening or a weekend, just let me know on here and we can sort a time out.

Its just small bits. If I'm still using it next month I'll have fixed it all up. Thats why I want those who are interested to come and have a look and not to buy blind.

I dont think you will get any lookers at that price, there are plenty available for alot less,for 2k people would want a minter, which yours isnt by the sound of it, have a look on ebay for a price guide

It doesn't matter how long you look at a £1000.00 car it will never be worth another £1000.00.

as above really. An all original mint example might fetch proper money, but only if someone really wants such a thing.
There is a fully restored D1 at a garage near me - he is asking £4K, which is a bargain for what you get, BUT, no one is interested - a little too young to be a classic, and possibly a little too old to be a daily driver for most people.
Do you have any proper history of it? pictures of repairs etc?? this will assist, but without full information, I think you're going to struggle to get £2K.
If you think its worth that, then the simple answer is to keep it, and re-arrange other things to do so..

In its current state, yes its under 2k. If I had the time it would not take much to get it in really good condition. That was where I was getting at. As is, less than 2k for sure going by the current price of others, hence why I said I am open to offers. Because the interior is decent it makes for a very comfortable daily driver and it would be ideal for someone who wants to drive it to work and back, but have a play at weekends. For a pure offroader it would be wasted, you can get a piece of **** disco for less than £1k, which is why I said people should come and view it.

As for the issues, they are small and intermittent. I could just say nothing and let whoever gets it find them out by themselves but I have more respect than that for Landy owners.

If I could keep it I would, but I can't financially support two cars atm. I'll be tidying it up over the coming weeks and then get proper pics, write up a full history etc and stick it on ebay/gumtree and what not. I can't sell it immediately until I have something else I can drive to work each day, so this was just a chance for anyone who is interested to come and check it out without any rush (sorry if I did not make that clear in the first post).

Ignore them all pal, it's got two arrows and a tow sticker on the front so that adds at least a grand to the price in 'cool, it must be a track day car' factor

I do how ever notice that they are on the front implying that it is being towed more than doing the towing

I have never had to be towed! But now I have typed this it will break down tomorrow and be sold as spares + repairs

Having owned this disco in the past - i sourced the replacement disco XS for it's engine as the original threw a rod out the side of the block, still drove though! (and ironically now living about 5miles from ottery), it's one of the better ones and definitely worth a couple of weekends tinkering to bring her up to £2k, which she should get close to with a bit of effort.

If you want any odd bits I might have a few spares left from various discos of the past.

I bought this off previous poster. I replaced the cheap TF lift kit and fitted genuine HD springs and BOGE gas shocks as well as new ARB bushes. It's had a fair bit of welding, but its all honest and solid. It drives well. The EDS was overhauled and the timing set up properly (with new belt and pulley). It's been de-catted. It was my wife's motor for three months then a D2 caught her eye - if not I'd still have it. A good solid, honest truck that needs a little TLC... By the way the tyres are 245/70x16's

Forget to say that front bumper is the old front bumper of my 200Tdi rally car - hence the stickers

Most people who buy a car would not pay 2 K for a landrover with issues. We all see our own cars as the best out there, unless you know it's a shed, but it is a buyers market I'm afraid.

Its quite amazing to come across previous owners! You can tell it has been looked after in the past and I really haven't done any justice.

I was going to be putting it up for sale properly next week at a stupidly low price as there was a car I wanted and would have needed cash kinda quickly. But that has been sold to someone else so I expect I'll be hanging on to this for a bit longer so I should be able to get it tidied up and get all of the issues fixed. A branch fell on the windscreen at somepoint during the week so I need to get that fixed too.

But another car might come along before I have it polished up so someone might be able to get a complete bargain.

As for the spare car bits - I'll have to pass :/ I'm renting a room above someones garage in West Hill and I don't really have any room for spare parts. I had to get rid of a load of stuff before I moved

I only sold it to the guy you bought it form because of this damned D2 I bought in. The wife drove it and liked the greater luxury. Back to back the 300 was quicker - despite the Td5 having been chipped. It was just down to getting the sensors set up right and the timing back to factory. I would guess your loss of power at low revs as being based around the MAF or the flywheel sensor.
The welding was done by the guy I bought it off. He didn't have to but as he's the most honest land rover dealer I've yet met he did. An over zealous MOT inspector 'found' issues to get work, he was never going to get. I wanted the vehicle safe for my kids. Stan is a architectural welder by trade and glued it together well. I was happy.

As to price. I wouldn't go low. There are few decent solid disco's around now. Thanks to the antics of many they are becoming a rarity. Put some TLC in to this old girl and you'll get good money out
