Hi I have a fuel problem with my 300tdi loosing power and then dying I have changed fuel filter and seem to be getting enough fuel after the filter. The lift on the pump works as I bled the filter.
I have cleaned water out of trap below tank and left cap off incase breather is blocked any ideas please.
Also second issue is Iam replacing prop doughnuts every 8 months last time I changed prop for second hand 1 as old 1 got damaged whacking diff? ?!
Thanks

I've been having similar issues, some good ideas going on in this thread here;

Getting fuel out of the fuel filter bleed nipple using the lift pump priming lever can be a bit of a false indication of the lift pump state (I had the same thing). Lift pumps are failry cheap (£20ish?) and easy enough to change so worth doing tbh (just mak sure the actuator arm goes on the right part of the cam).
If changing the lift pump doesn't solve it then time to start inspecting your fuel pipes to see if air is getting in, if there's any crud floating about in the tank and the turbo to Fuel Injection Pump pipe.

On an otherwise working system, the IP will suck hard enough that the lift pump dying will not cause the engine to die. Sure, it may be underpowered but it wont die.

If/when you get totally frustrated by it all, get some banjos and tails etc and a bit of clear nylon air line, and make up a length to go from the filter to the IP. It makes spotting air ingress simple.

Air, in my experience, normally makes for rough running before dying. Fuel starvation is more just peetering out.

Ive never found it to be an issue, but ive been advised to check the banjo on the back of the ip before - the bolt is not normal, and has a small hole in it, to maintain pump pressure, which, im told, can get blocked and cause issues. Ive never found it an issue, but one to check when youre clutching at straws?

I had a load of gunk in the actual tank once too....

OK thanks for that .

Update I have put a new fuel pump on and it's running better than before even before fuel issues.
Goes to show that even a pump that is a couple of years old can fail.
Cheap parts ???
Thanks all.

I changed the lift pump on our 300 yesterday.

Was all running fine, until the leakoff to IP banjo leaked. I sorted that but just couldn't rid the system of air. Took off the filter to IP banjo, pumped the manual lever and nothing... So changed the lift pump and all good again.

Was probably running with the duff lift pump for ages prior, but one small additional fault, and, without the system under positive pressure, it all falls down.

Glad it's sorted for you too.
