Discovery 3 Whining

Hi Guys have a problem with my Discovery 3 when driving it makes a high pitch whining noise. It makes this sound through gears 1,2,3,4 doesn't seem to be on gears 5 and 6. Stop the vehicle and let it idle / rev it and the sound is not there. I have a video of this but cannot seem to upload to this site. Does anyone know what this is?

Have you checked the transmission fluid level? Could be a little low

Is it the turbo whistling?
You may not hear it in higher gears due to wind noise.

if u copy the video to u tube, can then copy the link from there and paste it into here

plus 1 what the other guys have said, can sometimes be difficult to know what the noise is

what year and mileage is it plse

Hi guys thanks for the info. I have been told today by the garage that I need a new gearbox and clutch along with a list of other items. So looks like it’s going to be expensive.

Oh dear, please don't take this the wrong way,not implying you don't know what's what but don't just take the word of the first place you go to I'll bet there plenty of people on here could point you in the direction of a good place to take it to be assessed and get a fair and honest quote for a good job.post up what info you have on the disco forum and see what response you get

agreed in what has been said, maybe get a second opinion

it’s not ur transfer box is it , plse let us know how u get on

if u can take a video plse then put it onto u tube then copy the link into here maybe one of us can identify the noise for u
