Discovery 3 Manual Gearbox XYZ Sensor Failures

Hi all I'm new to site and need some help
I bought discovery 3 on Friday 14 th and the yellow park brake light has come on , and yes gear selector acting up and no reversing lights ,
Garage has said they will fix as in warrenty

Is it simple can I still drive it

Also I can't get screen to work on dash do I need disc to make it all work
 
I have just had new rear discs and one caliper replaced, due to living down a farm lane and not using car enough, allowing crud to build up. This weekend disco3 developed the same park brake and gear number indication problem. I was dreading things like new parking brake cylinders, sensors, clutch etc.
What a relief on reading this forum and carrying out the recalibration. It fixed the fault on the first exercise!

Superb Post Just had clutch fitted and thought the guys didn't connect Reverse switch or sensor for gear select recognition. Also put out Handbrake warning light and all systems go.

I've done everything to this Disco Overhauled Compressor Working fine after many suspension Problems. Renewed Handbrake complete module, Shoes Discs Pads Timing Belt Water pump Pulleys you name it All running as good as new now 110,00 miles 2005 since new. Still a belter of a 4x4 but need to spend the time and money at this mileage.
40k to replace so hope it will do another 100.000 +

I had this issue when I got the car ! It's a 2005 manual disco 3. Love it

Yellow brake light, park brake fault. No gears in dash. After advice on here I drive through gears in low and reset it it all! Solved

Happen end again 3 months later. Solved again!


Then recently I had no reverse gear. Was not selecting . Went to local 4x4 man. He knew what it was straight away. It was a pin or clip or something that had broke and its a simple fix at around 120£

Solved! I had reverse back!!

But at a cost

Now I get yellow park light and park fault . I have reversing lights.

And gears showing on dash are 2/4/6/R

Not showing 1/3/5 ... All gears at top odly

Anyway I tried 10 times the normal driving in low trick! Nothing! Gutted

So taken to garage who has plugged in and tried doing various things on comp to software. But no joy.

He is saying it is the sensor on top of gearbox that is broken and needs new as it can't work out what gear the car is in. He says £200 part and gearbox out 10 hours. £700 plus vat.

Is this right? I don't have a clue about cars. Building a house yes. Mending a car no no no no

Although he says it doesn't effect the car it's still nagging me as I like things right. Any ideas if he's missed something ? Or any advise ?

I love my disco so much but I don't want to get robbed!

I really would appreciate any guidance

common on mine to cal it yourself

Low range
Clutch fully down first gear clutch up
do this full down and up all the way to 6th gear
then reverse

Hay ho all calibrated.

Did what you said and i can honestly say it worked first time thanks for your post mate:D
 
I have got exactly the same problem as Matthew Letissier described below. The garage thought it was the magnet sensors and cleaned/replaced them. They have also replaced the XYZ switch. I now get all gears except 5 to show. It is 5th gear that seems to throw the car out of its calibration. I am not sure what to do now and neither is the garage. All suggestions welcome.?

Hi guys I’ve just bought a 2007 disco 3 and have the same issue with no reverse lights parking sensors and amber hand brake light on. I’ve tried this calibration about 5 times up and down the street but cannot get it to reset any help would be appreciated thanks Martin

It'll need to go on a diagnostic machine, so you can see what is up with it.
The XYZ sensor does fail sometimes, and needs proper calibration with a suitable diagnostic device.

I have to admit - I was sceptical, boy was I wrong...did this and all of a sudden I have reverse lights and the gear position is almost instant again!
