Hello guys !

newbie hear looking for some help!

was driving my 2009 d3 hse home today and it randomly caught fire wile I was moving!

Iv had her 4 years and never had a problem with it, always been well looked after and maintained.

I had a sudden loss off power and as I looked in rear view it looked like black smoke from exhaust!

I pulled into a side street literally 20 seconds later, turned it off and jumped out ! I soon noticed the smoke was from under bonnet.
I lifted and and see the flame and continued to fight the fire ! Luckily where I stoped there was a hose pipe in the front garden ! I kept it under control untill services got there! Once they was happy it was completely cooled gave the ok for recovery !

I had no idea it was such a common thing untill started reading tonight ! Just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone on this site ?? And if so what was the outcome with insurance ect? Any info would be appreciated guys! Thanks and take care [GALLERY=][GALLERY=][GALLERY=][GALLERY=][GALLERY=][GALLERY=][GALLERY=][/GALLERY][/GALLERY][/GALLERY][/GALLERY][/GALLERY][/GALLERY][/GALLERY]

That could be an egr stuck open melting the inlet manifold, or an injector seal washer leaking allowing hot gases to melt the wiring conduit etc.

As for insurance as I understand it, if you stop the fire as you have you could be responsible for the repair much the same as any other repair needed on the car, but if you had let it burn out they would pay out as car written off.

I think with some 2nd hand parts that should be repairable.

I have read of very few D3/4 fires, and the ones I have read of seem to start with the FBH feed hose splititng and chucking diesel onto the FBH exhaust.

The fbh exhaust runs down the front no where near there. Can be a number of reasons for the fire best put it in to a garage and see what they say the ECU is just behind the battery plus some other stuff.
Good luck
