"But it was cheap" ;)
see post #14 for possible contacts.

It wasn't that cheap :p
Going to give them a ring next week, but north Yorkshire is a long old trek

at least it isnt the alternator ;)

Errmmm, the alternator did kind of go, the pully sheared off, the day before we were due to fly out to Serbia for a month. At least we weren't planning on driving, this time

with a D1 instrument pack even if you can addapt it you'll loose the speedometer cos that's managed by the D2's ABS ECU... the way would be to addapt a 300tdi temp gauge and tachometer to the D2 instrument pack IMO

we've just bought 300tdi and td5 instrument packs from eBay so we can have strip them down and see what can be put together

good luck, if you succede afaik you must take a wire from the W terminal of the 300tdi alternator for the tachometer i think... i hope someone who knows 300tdi will help you with that cos i'm quite dumb in that area:eek:

I have just completed a 300tdi engine in a td5 body on a rrc chassis, Managed to get everything working except heated windows. What a nightmare but worth it.

The instrument packs turned up, unfortunately, the TD5 pack is on one circuit board, so it's unlikely we're going to be able to put something together with them.

Hi Guys - for those of you still struggling to get a 300 Tdi 5 speed to work in a D2 here is a quick run down of what you need to do - and maybe answer some questions that have been asked to me but not made common knowledge.

The speedo is generated from the ABS sensors in the wheels - so you can forget the cable or sensor from the D1 R380

If fitting a D1 R380 check the rear gearbox mounts - the left one is different - use the D2 Td5 rubber mounts - D2 V8 ones look the same to me. If you use D1 brackets you can kick the engine and gearbox round a bit and it can catch on the front prop

Temp sensor - not sure of the Td5 as I have not done one, but the V8 sensor fits perfectly into the head of the 300 Tdi in the top of the head where the EGR temp sensor went use same wiring and plug

Rev counter / ABS - we keep the engine ECU in place and prune the harness - you have to provide a crank sensor on the engine - on our first D2 we machined the flywheel and fitted a sensor in the adaptor plate - this was a bit of an engineering nightmare as the tolerances are very fine - we have now one guy who knows how to machine the flywheel and has made a jig to fit the sensor

The ECU requires a pulse wave modulation for the systems to work and it seems that this is generated by the sensor

So we thought that fitting a reluctor ring to the crank pulley and a sensor would work the same - nope - wrong voltage and pulse - more time needed with an oscilloscope, so for our latest conversion we stuck with the flywheel method and worked perfectly - you use the original sensor for the V8 - again not sure for the Td5 as the Td5 flywheel has the reluctor built into the flywheel but will it fit a 300 Tdi?

To get all the traction control working, chose a 300 Tdi which has had ERG - the injector pump has the 'throttle position sensor' that can work with the V8 wiring

So there are a few items - sorry to be a bit vague but it took weeks of studying the Disco wiring descriptions to get this to work, and as this is out bread and butter I cannot go into too much detail, BUT it is a cracking conversion - I had to open up the fuel pump a hair but we have good performance and economy and after 4 1/2 years have had zero faults

Good Morning from Portugal :)

in order to recover my beloved 200tdi, i got my hands on a TD5 car (complete without engine).

so.. inspired by many projects i have seen over the times. i started to fit the shell of the TD5 on my 200Tdi.

everything went well, fits like a glove. but now i have some issues that i see you have here also.

Temp Gauge - Not Working

Speedo - Not Working

Tacometer - Not Working

Rev Counter - Not Working

i am not a very "bright" person in terms of eletronic, can anyone do a quick explaination how i can resolve this ?
what was your solution ?
thanks !!

(i am on train of making my presentation on site :) )

read again(or first time if you misssed it) starting from post #13/page 2 in this thread, you'll see that you must be VERY bright in electronics to make them work:cool:

See my post #36 - use the original Td5 sensor as it is dedicated to the gauge - I can only give you my experience from the V8 to Tdi, but the V8 sensor has 2 wires
