Having had work done on my TD5 Discovery 2 I have noticed the heaters are still extremely weak. I wondered if the thermostat was plumbed correctly. I have had 2 fitted the same way and the heaters are poor despite the hoses on the radiator being quite warm. I wondered if the flow was incorrect. On mine the “branch” is on the most rearward pipe. I wondered if it is the same on everyone else’s? If anyone has any pics that would also be most helpful.

Yes Griff, that does help thank you. It shows the fitting exactly the same as mine. So now to chase the fault. Heaters are hotter when you rev the engine, I have had the water pump out when I did the oil cooler o rings and PAS pump when the pump wasn’t spinning. It checks out ok. What else restricts flow on a TD5 cooling system?

Hi Daz,
Check that all the hoses are ok and have you flushed the system in case there is a blockage -especially the rad.
When you filled the system did you raise the resevoir, as per the manual, to bleed the air out?

It's almost impossible to plumb in the thermostat the wrong way. If it's new, that wouldn't be a cause of your issue. As has been said, check the system is bled properly. Remove bleed screw and raise the tank - it's a bit awkward with the hoses in the way but it just unclips. Heaters blowing cold at low revs is a sure sign of low coolant level and/or an airlock. Squishing the top hose as you fill also helps get air out. Another thing, you say you did the oil cooler o-rings, did you have oil in the coolant?
 
When I had this issue with the heaters it was just after I fitted a cheap aftermarket thermostat which failed very quickly. Which wasn't nice cause I was in a -20 degree climate!
