Disco 2 Discovery 2 td5 crank pulley sheared

another disco adventure... my crank pulley failed in snowdonia on Sunday so it’s second trip home on a AA truck in six months. Just got the fan off and it seems that the damper has sheared off so there are no bolt holes to stop the pulley turning when trying to undo the bolt securing it to the crank! Any suggestions??

Can you possibly weld something onto the remaining bit to hold it with while you undo the nut?

Take the starter out & jam the flywheel with a lever against the casing

Thanks for the advice, has anyone used the starter motor method? Seems that you jam the socket and give it a start but not enough to fire her up to get the bolt moving? Can it be that simple?? Seen a few YouTube videos but I’m not sure it won’t cause more problems?

Have done on a 300tdi, But I disconnected the fuel solenoid on that to stop it starting. Never looked to do it on the td5.

Quite normal system on a td5 as well, but as said, you need to actually stop it starting........

Pulled out the fuel pump relay and tried the starter motor method.... broke my extension bar

Also use the starter method, but with a 3/4 drive

I use a locking pin to tighten the bolt, but the starter to undo as they are effin tight
