Hi I have a 2000 discovery td5 and I need to do ecu change but hawkeye or any other coder reader I have tried won't communicate to ecu but have power at old port as powers reader up thanks in advance

Hi, which ECU does not communicate? all of them ? did you fit a replacement which doesnt communicate or it didnt with the old one too ?

First of all check continuity between the OBD socket's pin 7 and ECM black plug C0657 pin 32(pink wire all the way)... if you have continuity on that path means that probably the BCU is at fault and it mixes up the K line's modulation. If no continuity then you'll have to make continuity test between the socket and header C0286 where the K line splits betwen the ECUs. For connector views see the electrical library from RAVE

hawkeye can program the BCU to the vehicle but can't synk fobs without the original bar code... though better check the K line continuity before thinking to the BCU

Thanks sierrafery for all the advice I have had a look though rave but not really sure what I'm looking for as don't tend to normally do electrics but with so much time on my hands at the min thought I'd give it a go lol

In the "Electrical library" it's a section "connector views" there you scroll untill the connector i told you C0657 to see the pinout and position and check continuity to OBD socket C0040 pin 7, for C0287 you'll have to unwrap the harness....though if you have zero skills with electrics you'll have to find somebody who understands what i'm talking about, download this https://www.dropbox.com/sh/47hbz40a...5PoX6eFVLa?preview=Electrical+libary+03MY.pdf

Just put a volt meter on pink wire from black ecu plug (pink wire ) to pin7 (pink wire on obd socket and voltmeter beeped and read zero is this right ? Manythanks matt

I hope you mean Ohmeter not voltmeter cos you need the multimeter set to Ohm, and if you get 0 resistance check against earth too and there must be open circuit.

Yes multi meter I my multi meter has ohms with a signal setting I had the ecu plug off ecu is this correct ? Sorry for all the questions

Yes ECU plug disconnected, if you have continuity between the ECM and pin 7 OBD you'll haave to remove the glove box and check continuity between BCU C0661-4 and OBD pin 7 and if you have continuity there too i'm affraid you'll have to replace the BCU... al measurements with disconnected negative battery lead

Hi no continuity between bcu and obd port I have found connector co286 could you advise me on which pin is k line tbanks matt

All the pink wires are the K line which splits between ECUs, the BCU should go to pin 18 but i've seen cases when it was elswhere, at least you found the trouble cos if the BCU has no connection to that header it's normal for the comms to not work as it's a kind of gateway, once you restore the line between the BCU and the OBD socket you'll have communication with all ECUs , make sure there;s no corrosion in that header

Fingers crossed thanks I will see if I have anything there am I right in thinking obd to 15 then bcu to 18 thanks
