Hi again after a long absence. I'm after some advice regarding egr on my disco td5 2002. A while ago I removed my egr and fitted a blanking kit. Also removed centre box and cat and had a remap. Loads of power now.
However mot will be up in September and thanks to new rules the cat and egr will need to be refitted for the mot, followed by removal again for 12 months.
The problem is I kept the cat but binned the egr, so have just purchased a replacement. However this is where the problem lies. My old egr didn't have enough the cooler only the long flexi pipe. The replacement does have the cooler. My engine is definitely a 15p engine and the original removed egr was as fitted from the factory. The car had 1 previous owner from new and was always maintained by land rover dealership, I have full landrover records so I know exactly what it's history is.
Can anyone tell me how to fit the cooler when it was never originally fitted..??

People seem to still be unsure about how the new MoT rules will affect them, especially regarding the EGR.
The rules do state that the test station isn't allow to disassemble anything to look for or check the presence or otherwise of any item.
In the case of the Td5 engine, that means that they can't go pulling the acoustic cover off the engine to look at anything.
I binned mine, but I don't think I'll worry until I'm told to.
Somebody has posted a copy of the new rules somewhere on the forum.
 
If I refit my EGR valve, what is the best method to disable the function to prevent exhaust gas from entering the inlet manifold?
 
Just leave it blanked, if you don't have an accoustic cover for the engine buy one. The tester can't remove anything and when the cover is fitted you cannot see if the EGR valve is fitted or not so no worries.

Looking at engine cover I can see the blanking plate visible so mot tester would be able to see without removing it. Might either refit egr and leave it not working with blank plate fitted inline or extend engine cover with a bit cut from from plastic steering cover that I removed when fitting winch bumper along with inner arch liners. That way it deffo won't be visible..
As for decat pipe, I guess that's pretty obvious that it's not fitted too. Having looked at the latest mot testers handbook downloaded from gov.co.uk it says if anything was fitted by manufacturer as standard and is missing, for emissions, its a fail.
I think I'll see what other people start to experience after May when new rules come in force.

Honestly I wouldn't go to the extents of that. The MOT adjustments are aimed at the newer engines and catching those out rather than an older discovery. Mine is Stage 2 Mapped by Storm Tuning with decat and EGR delete and the emissions test was perfect. Fan cover and engine cover on will make it slightly harder to see the EGR.

I tend to think that the MoT inspector is only going to go looking for such things as the EGR missing if the vehicle fails on the emissions test, if it passes that then I reckon he'll be happy.
