Dont get me wrong, i am not looking to be shaking windows and setting off earthquake sensors 3000 miles away with this but i would like a mild upgrade to the sound system in the discovery.
the issue: i currently have a 04 TD5 with the full harmon sound system, running via the HK amp and through a pioneer headunit.
I want a (better) sound system. in my mind i was thinking of replacing the speakers with something slightly better - audison fit straight into the woofers, then looking for something for tweeters and midrange in the doors) however the issue i have is that the headunit is amplified, and this is further amplified by the amp (and i have no control with - at least - this headunit to lower the outgoing volume meaning i have my volume set to 1 or 2 and it's loud enough, and if the phone rings my ear drums bleed)
now.. in my mind I understand that the HK Amp handles the crossovers for the midrange and tweeter up front.
Option 1: Use a different headunit that i can control the line out volume to the HK amp and just replace the speakers
Option 2: using the factory wiring, replace the amplifier, and speakers
Option 3: Using completely new wiring front to back, rewire the whole system with new speakers and an amp in place of the HK amp.
Option 4: anything else you would suggest?
obviously using the factory wiring is a good start, because I don't have to pull half the car apart. but i am blind to the stereo modifications on this.
