Hi all

Could I ask for a favour if someone please in that they measure the plastic edge of the d2 shifter surround where it meets the centre console? Thanks!

This is an auto shifter surround for a D2 I believe, so the usual L & W & H and maybe the circumference ? 😊

Sorry it didn’t notify me of responses. Just length and width at widest points of please. Even better if of the trim itself. I have the walnut window switches but the d1 full wood centre console trim is hens teeth - not sure if it was yank only. I want to see how much out the shifter is on the d2 one. If it’s not miles out, I’ll be able to use without a re-veneer but if it’s a way out I’d have to modify and re-veneer

If you want it that bad why not just buy a piece of walnut veneered timber, maybe even MDF veneered and cut it to size?
I got a walnut veneered dashboard blank for a kit car and then cut it and shaped it to fit the instruments and switches I had obtained then shaped it to take the steering wheel column and the interior so it was mostly curves. For a 1930s SS jaguar lookalike. Funnily the originals had painted metal!

Done that for some bits mate, just don’t trust myself getting the right curve which is why worst comes to worst I’d use a d2 one, add/remove material then veneer over the top.

This is as far as I’ve got - all these bits have had to have fresh walnut burl.
I know it’s an acquired taste but I love wood trim in an older car!!

Me too, I do kit cars that look like 1930s cars and they all have wooden dash's, door caps, gearlever knobs etc. They can be a lot of work though and maintenance is something lots of peeps couldn't be bothered with.

I’m fond of it in German 80s/90s barges too. Fully specced out 5 and 7 series with the walnut trim looks the nuts imo but a lot of people hate it.
