Discovery 2 Coolant Flush

Never having replaced all the coolant hoses on a Disco 2 Td5 I assume it's not that difficult? Assuming all coolant hoses are reasonably accessible and all that is needed is a flat blade screwdriver, swan neck pliers and access to the underside?

Well, recently got Disco 2 Td5 back from the L/R mechanic - had to get towed there as it broke down on the highway when my wife was driving. Anyway, looks like the top hose (with brass bleed) and the bypass hose just went! Two new hoses and new OAT coolant. Bit annoyed because I was just about (had already purchased the OAT concentrate) to check hoses, drain, flush and refill with OAT! Damn!

Good thing is no damage to engine - all good - not cooked - kudos to my wife for pulling over at first signs of a developing issue! Have heard so many horror stories of people who just keep going and cook their engine!
 
If it had and overheating episode with the gauge going up from the middle even if there are no visible signs of damage check the oil level more often to not rise cos the injector seals might have suffered from the excessive heat(especially if they are old) and then they'll let fuel into the oil without causing any running issues or signs... happened to me

Appreciate that! I recently changed the injector harness but left the injector seals alone. Doing an oil change next month so I'll see if there are any signs (smell!) of diesel in the oil!
 
that's how much they worth for how reliable they are... IMO for thermostat the only correct choice is genuine LR
Just looked up on LR direct and 40 quid for a genuine, or 20 for OEM and 10 for britpart, at that price I'm tempted just to put the original back on when I change the pipes o_O
 
This is first time for me to flush my D2 cooling system, I will follow @sierrafery procedure. In terms of RAVE, the thermostat main valve initially opens at 82 degree, and the by-pass flow valve at 1500 rev/min. To flush the radiator, both must be open, which one opens first from cold start? When I start flushing from hose water in tank, a part of water flows out of the drain hole and other are fed to the pump, the radiator bleed pipe should have water back to the tank for closed valves. If I see no water back to the tank, it means both valves have been opened, a few seconds later I can stop engine and water, is this correct?

I don't really understand your question cos it's obvious that the bypass valve opens only under flow at above 1500 rpm so it opens when ever you want it to all you have to do is to push the throttle as to get above that limit regardless of the coolant temp

Thanks! I could be confused by the following in the RAVE.
Thermostat - Main valve
The thermostat is used to maintain the coolant at the optimum temperature for efficient combustion and to aid engine warm-up. The thermostat is closed at temperatures below approximately 82°C (179°F). When the coolant temperature reaches approximately 82°C the thermostat starts to open and is fully open at approximately 96°C (204°F). In this condition the full flow of coolant is directed through the radiator.
 
After the coolant was changed and a while ride, I found the coolant level dropped 1 to 2cm, then tried to top up, but the coolant level came back to the full mark. Does it mean there are still air trapped in the system?
