Hi. I am changing the bearing on the out put shaft on the transfer box. I Have undone the nut and removed the flange. There is then a seal which seems to be in 2 bits. Top half came out then there is another seal which sits in front of the circlip. My question is that should there be a mud shield anywhere. ? I've looked at new flange kits and they all seem to come with a mud shield

I have had issues getting one to seal before, and removed the mud shied and fitted two seals.
Car grey by any chance?

I'm fitting it in to another transfer box I have brought so not sure on the car colour. There should be a mud shield then?

Yes I am pretty sure there is, I had to remove mudshield to get 2nd seal to fit, was many years ago mind!

This is for lt77 gbox but think most lt230 the same, but do check part numbers, dont look like rear has a mudshield though?

Only one seal is required and so that is whats fitted in the factory, but two seals are supplied if u purchase the gasket kit, which includes two sealing washers.

its always best to not only do the seal but best to kit a kit and replace the flange as well, in case there is a grove in the flange,
I have just posted this,
REAR TC FLANGE SEAL check it out

Yea I have brought a complete flange kit. How hard is it to get the shaft out of the transfer box? It's a discovery 1 so has diff lock.( Not sure if that makes a difference.) I'm not sure if the bearing on mine is on its way out.

Yeah I understand that. its just I started stripping it down because I think the bearing on the shaft is possibly on its way out.

You can get pullers that will remove ball bearing assys with little widgets that hook between the tracks.
Called blind bearing pullers, I think!

Is it on the bench? If so remove the front output housing and its pretty straightforward. You can knock it all out from behind then. Big circlip on the bearing needs beefy pliers. Heat the housing in boiling water and freeze the bearing and it will slide back in with a tap.

No that engages the dog clutch which is behind the nose section with the bearing, so shouldn’t affect it. Ive not done this on the vehicle so cant really help too much sorry.

Hi first question do you have a manual to help guild you in the right direction, if you remove the flange housing the shaft will probably come out with it as it just slides in on its spline, its the other items to be careful of ,like diff lock etc. you need to worry about

if you dont have a manual PM me you email address and I will send you a copy

If you look up buster bus’ how to guides on here, i think this is on there. Although i dont know how easy that bearing will come out without a good bit of muscle.

I did my rear out put last year it is easier than the front but principle its the same follow the manual i sent you , if it was me i would remove the housing, but there are tool that can remove the race insitu, check out your local tool hire shop, and you will need a big set of circlip pliers , I bought these, but then you could hire a set
