Discovery 1 ignition/Starting Problems

Good afternoon all!
I have a problem which i would love some help with.


It's electrical...
"The plot."
I was driving back from town last week, drove about a mile from cold and whilst driving the ignition cut out (never happened before) and i couldn't get it started again.

My first thought was a fuse, the battery, which i checked both (even recharged to full). Correct me if i'm wrong, there are two fuse boxes on this Discovery (one under steering wheel and a small one in the bonnet above the battery.

all fuses are fine as is the battery, but some electrics do work.
what works
Interior light
central locking side lights and main (only when held)
hazards

what doesnt work
ignition instrument lights.
electric windows
heaters/blower/fan


there is no clicks or sound of power when i put my key in and turned it.

but by sheer luck it did start a few times only when i held my key turned on, but as soon as i released it (as you would to drive off) it cut the engine out.

Ive currently also cleaned earth points but still no joy.

I would love some advice please.

sorry, its a K reg 200

multi metre and follow main live , check fuses o/s wing (they corode) live at ign switch? could well just be switch gone

Evening All,

I found the little bleeder! a couple of the lives in the cloth bag had corroded! Cheers Uncle Albert!
I did get to this after i had bought the electric part of the ignition, but it was only £12 so now i have one spare if anyone needs it!

Anyway, abit of cleaning and a solder and bobs your uncle the dash lit up like the enterprise, I'm sure half the lights hadn't probably worked for the last ten years.

Hi all, I have discovery 1 V8 which was off the road for over 12 months due to ignition problems and not working at all. Tried the spider by-pass and stil didn't work. Changed the alarm ecu and it still didn't work. Had a friend disconnect the ecu and throw it away and bypassed it with 3 wires connected to an earth and Robert's your mother's brother. Worked fins for a number of months and then started to have intermittent starting problems. It will start fine first thing in the morning sometimes or just turns over and doesn't fire at all. 5 mins later turns and fires up fine. After a run it won't start at all with no turning or starter motor clicks, only the dash lights dimming at ean turn of the key. 30 mins later it will start first turn..... any ideas??? pleases.

I would go back and look as those unofficial electrical modifications first, if ok then start testing the ignition/engine start circuits.
And the model year of your V8 disco is ?
