Drove it across London, stopped and put it in park, now it starts but I can't move the leaver from Park. Is it mechanical or electrical?
The car starts and I think everything works

mechanical by a bowden cable situated on lhs of the box, you can operate lever at the box with a 13mm spanner anticlockwise takes you away from p

the other thing worth looking at is the lever you can prise a plastic cover off ,when you push the button it should pull up on the linkage via a c clip, you can use pliers to get you home

Tried various bits, called the breakdown, turned out it was the brake sensor switch on the pedal! Took it off and shorted it out, could drive home without brake lights. Many thanks for the suggestions

Sorry, didn't realise there was a difference, I was told they were the same. Any other differences?

Not a lot, you can't remove the ignition key unless in P is another there's also an interlock in the N position of the disco's transfer box.
The being in the P position with brake and Ign key is the same with some off the Japanese cars produced in the UK today, which u may have found out, As I have done my company Honda that I sometimes use.
