I know little about the auto 300tdis but it sounds like it is hitting a rev limiter of some kind.
soemone else will know if it is possible for that to go wrong.

That rev jumping is happening stationary too or just while driving? if it's about fuel pressure it should do it stationary too at higher revs
Hm good question. I left my disco to change oil and filter in auto gearbox but did not check after all what is the level.
Am i right it should be between min max or till i see oil running out?
Dipstick in the engine bay, cannot remember markings on the stick, but engine needs to be running in park then take the reading off the dipstick.
Some auto sticks have two min/max markings, lower set for cold g/box and higher set for warm g/box.

The D1 automatic gearbox dipstick has has two markings, max and low and and the fluid level should be checked ‘cold’ with the engine running at idle and after moving the selector from position ‘1’ and back to ‘P’.
